Hi,
Recently purchased a amp, first one. Was wondering in what order I should turn everything on. Amp, avr then everything else, or amp on last. The amp is a Carver av705x.

Thanks

I leave my amp on all the time, but I believe it should be avr then amp. Blu-ray player, etc. shouldn't matter when you turn them on.

I just posed this very same question, in regard to my Carver power amp, to a very knowledgeable (more than 20 years of experience) audio technician. He said the power amp should be LOFO - Last On, First Off (in relation to your preamp) and when switching it on or off have your preamp volume turned way down.

Turn on order: sources, dac, avr, then amp.
Turn off order is reverse: amp, avr, dac, and sources.

I can't answer the question with any real authority, but I can say with certainty that you MUST power on the amp if you want to hear anything. :)

(I f'd with the AVR remote for 10 minutes trying to figure out what was broke this morning trying to get the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 5.1. Then it dawned on me - the amp is off. DOH!!!)
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Side question to the op's question. If you have an older amp that does not have a 12v trigger and you want to be able to turn everything on properly with just a remote press, what is an easy an inexpensive way to do that?

    Thanks for clearing that up.
I always thought amp should be turned on first and turn off last to avoid initial pop on the speakers when everything else is already on.
