Hi all, still new to these Vintage Polk waters only owning a set of RTA -11t's so far, but was recently presented with an offer and was wondering what everyone here thought. A pair of mint Monitor 7's for $200 in the original box has presented themselves. I was wondering how everyone felt about these speakers and its listed price. I'm very happy with my 11's and from what I understand the 7's would be a lesser speaker and being I only spent $130 on the 11's the price tag for the 7's concern me. Thanks in advance for all opinions and suggestions!

You may never get that back out of them since they wont be new in box anymore. But if you want em, tis the season.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I would not spend $200 on a monitor 7 whether they have box or not.
If they are really perfect, then may be around $125 +- few bucks.

OK, needless to say that what follows is my opinion... not masquerading as "fact" in any way, shape or form.

    That said...

I would opine that a pair of truly NOS/NIB Polk Audio Monitor Series Model 7A might be worth 200 clams (especially if they include a pair of Polkstands - new or used).

The big upside (for me) - the Peerless silk dome tweeter.
The big (potential) downside - the glue holding the magnets in place on the baskets of the 6-1/2" "midbass" drivers will almost certainly have deteriorated in the past 35 years; if the speakers have been jostled very much in handling over the past three-and-a-half (!) decades, there's a fair chance that one or both drivers' magnets may be misaligned, which will result in misalignment of the driver's VC in its gap. It is sometimes possible to realign and reaffix the magnets, but it's not for the faint of heart (and, of course, in the worst, case, the drivers could be replaced)... just something to bear in mind when buying a pair of brand-new yet rather old Polks.

I'd further opine that the value of Monitor 7B or later models would be significantly less (to me, anyway), even NIB.

Finally and FWIW, I am not sure whether I'd pay 200 smackers for a pair of the very original verion of the Monitor Series Model 7 (which featured an uncoated paper 8" PR rather than the coated paper 10" PR of the 7A and later versions)... maybe I would due to rarity; they're not at all common.

Thanks folks, I think this is definatly what I needed to hear. As much as I would like to get a collection of vintage Polks going this may not be time to do so. Besides I should probably focus on recapping and getting some RDO's in the 11's any way :). Again thanks all its truely appreciated.
