Help Selling Older Parasound Equipment

Greetings! I have a bunch of really nice older (c. 1998) Parasound equipment that came with my house that I would like to sell. Unfortunately, I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile and am unlikely to ever meet the 100 post threshold for posting in the classifieds. I was wondering if there were any other options for being allowed to list or if you could give me some tips for selling this equipment that might make the process easier on both ends. It seems to be some really nice stuff with a limited audience that someone here would be able to appreciate far more than I. Thanks!

John

Evidently you know the rules, please abide by them. If you don't want to contribute to the forum, go to e-bay,craig's list or audiogon.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

    Hi John,

Welcome to club Polk. As you already know, the practice of attempting to get around the rules is generally frowned upon here. And the mods will not let you into the FM without 100 posts.

As for figuring out how to sell your gear, assuming you are an honest guy asking an honest question, I will give you a couple suggestions. First, look each piece up on google to find the specs. They should be on parasound's website. Next, see if you can find any professional reviews from magazines like Stereophile, sound and vision, etc. Then I would create an eBay account if you don't already have one. You can search for those products on ebay, and on the left hand pane you can narrow your search to completed items. That allows you to see if that item has sold in the last 3 weeks and will give you an idea of market value. if that does not give you enough information, I would create an audiogon.com account and subscribe to the audio bluebook. You can get a a month subscription for 20 bucks. This will give you access to much fuller data of sales so that you can price your items appropriately. Once you have an idea of the market value, you can try Craigslist in your area if you live in a major city; otherwise I would suggest audiogon first as its cheaper to sell their, and then eBay for items that you think need the broadest possible audience.

    Good luck!

You don't need to be an audiophile to enjoy good audio any more than you need to be a Nascar driver to appreciate a good car. My suggestion is to keep the gear, get some nice speakers and enjoy.

Thanks, Paul. I've spent a fair amount of time looking up specs, recent asking/sale prices, etc. and I think I'm pretty comfortable with that. Much of that research brought me back to these forums so I thought it would be worthwhile to ask and see if there was anything that could be done here directly. Being active on a number of trading-related forums I definitely understand the need to protect the members from shady characters, even if a few "regular guys" are filtered out now and again. It looks like you're right and that some combination of Craigslist, Audiogon, and eBay (blech) are the right approach. Sorry for the intrusion and thanks again for your time!

Yeah yeah I know. If the mods lock the thread or delete post I won't be heart broken.
