I'm checking out power cords and I come across this. What the hell are the pods the cables are sitting on?

Some members of the audiophile crowd like to 'lift' their power cords and speaker cables off the floor to 'isolate' them more from the room and its electric / vibrato properties.

A tweak for someone who has ran out of tweaks as I see it. You might also find dense, metal 'cones' on top of their speakers also.

Those are actually flux capacitors within the ceramic insulators that help stabalize the dielectric within the cables.

Sheeeesh!!! Do I have to tell you guys everything:rolleyes:

I have found that they mate real well with my Radio Shack 12 guage speaker wire and really only cost $350.00 a piece. Quite the savings compared to Vulcano wire!

what the hell did I just say?

DC, heres where to get those wonders. Note that they have "...hundreds of customer testimonials to prove it"; so it must be true. If you'd like a different design(equally effective, I suspect)take a look at the "cable lifts" here along with other miraculous advancements in audio science.

At $160 for a set of eight, i'd rather do an origami fold of a $20 bill and use that to isolate my speaker cables. :D

Better than the isolators, but why have a $2000 power cable going directly to an amp without any filtering whatsoever? Does this person realize what trashy, solid core, builder spec wire is feeding that outlet and every other in his house? Bet he doesn't also know that his amp is bussed in the same breaker panel as the clothes dryer, A/C, microwave, etc...

I don't have any filtering in my system and have an aftermarket power cord plugged directly into the wall. Other than the ridiculous $2000 for a power cord, I'm not sure what your point is... I'm guessing that with the cost of that power cord, there would have to be one hell of an expensive power filter/conditioner that wouldn't take anything away from his system.

Believe it or not, a power cord, regardless of the crappy in wall wiring will make a difference in the performance of a system. ;)

Agreed! I took it a step further and had a dedicated 20 amp line put in with the best wire my guy could come up with.

Curious, have you tried plugging into one of your old outlets to see if there was a difference from the newly dedicated one?

No, the old outlets are too far away from my gear now.

if u use an extension cord you poison your little expiriment because it might not be the outlet that causes the difference but the extension cord. unless of course you have a $2k extension cord laying around :p

    Power Cord Vodoo 101

For the absolute best possible sound, You'll need to dance around in a loin cloth, burn some chicken feathers and mumble gibberish in your best Jamacian accent.

Regarding the "Pods," old baby food jars filled with metal shavings suspended in virgin vaseline will work just as well.

You can also just use old ceramic coffee mugs. A bit of modeling clay can be used to hold the cable in place.
