New Receiver Wanted

Good day everyone,

I'm currently in the market for a new receiver. I currently have a Yamaha HTR-5890 for my RTI10's and I am looking to upgrade to a better receiver with HDMI input/outputs. Maybe even 3D capable.

I'm looking for a receiver with pre-outs because I use my Emotiva XPA-5 to power my speakers.

I would prefer a Denon/Pioneer receiver as I read they work well with RTI10's.

I'm not looking to spend a huge amount of money, just want to upgrade.

Thank you for looking! :-).

In Pioneers line you cant get preout until the $1,100 range with the sc-61. The same goes with denon. The first model to have preouts is the AVR-3313CI at $1,199

You best bet is looking for something used or maybe last years left overs. I have a Pioneer Elite VSX32. It has a full preout array. Its a fantastic AVR. Mcacc calibration is a wonderful thing. You should be able to find those in the $500 range now.

I forgot about that outlaw. I spoke to a customer who has one on order for this dedicated theater room. Thats a lot better buy then a avr. Even more so since you wont use its internal amp.

    That's very interesting.

Thanks everyone for their input - I would say my range is around $500-$700 for now.

I would like to keep my Emotiva XPA-5 as it's satisfying my ears :). So that first link that Lasareath sent - that's all I need?

I'd say this is a pretty decent deal (close out as this model is no longer around).

The Sherwood R-972 Newcastle with most of what you need at a fraction of its original cost, $599 as opposed to $1799!

Ha! A post from cnh without quotes! Found it!:cheesygrin::cheesygrin:

I have often wondered how good of a deal that is, stacked up to a refurb/used Elite. I think the new Outlaw model looks very interesting as well if you use a dedicated amp.

The link that Lasereth posted really entices me. Like specd_out said - I won't be using the internal amp and will be using the XPA-5 for all my power.

Any other good suggestions or opinions?

It would be a waste of money for you to buy a receiver if you won't be using the built-in amplification. Grab a great pre/pro like the Outlaw (or many used options) and treat yourself to an upgrade!

Lol I think the one on eBay is an m15HD, as opposed to the one on audiogon which is the regular version?

Sorry to bring an old thread up - has anyone have experienced or reviews on the Marantz AV7005 Surround Processor.

Looking for a dedicated preamp Surround Processor. Budget would be less than $1,000.

Did some researching on the Marantz AV7005: Some people experience BUZZING problems? Any own this unit at all?

Are there better alternatives? I was looking at the Outlaw mentioned above, just expanding my options. $1,000 budget. (preferably lower and used)

I have one but I want $11k for it.
It is 20 years old and super cheap on Fleabay (HKAVR 300).

All the funnies aside, it would be a waste to buy a receiver, look at some decent separates for your money.
    You will not be sorry!

hehe, yes I've decided to look at separates for now. My goal is to upgrade in the following order:

    1) Dedicated Pre-amp
    2) External Amp
    3) Speakers.

There's just too many too choose from and I know these Polk Gurus here always have great suggestions!

Anyone own Marantz AV 7701? Thinking abt using this as my dedicated pre amp, then upgrading in the future to a maybe separate parasound amps, but for now- xpa5 will do

Just got it, and am very impressed... Hooked it up with balanced interconnects to my Sunfire tga 7401. I am only comparing it to my old receiver, but for what it's worth at $1259 from internet resellers, It wouldn't pay to go with the older model. Many reviews knock it down for "only having" Audessy MultiEQ XT but it setup fine in my difficult room.

Nice!! I don't plan on using balanced interconnects. Think that will make any difference? Just normal banana plugs for me

So i got a 1m set of 7 from this guy who makes them on ebay for $147...they are well made ... had to buy interconnects any way. Everyone says they are quieter and could have spent more on either balanced or unbalanced... These are fine, and made with good cable and connectors.

Well I guess my next question is - is there a noticeable difference between Balanced vs Unbalanced Interconnects?
