how would rti8's perform as surround speakers?

With the lowered prices of Rti8's recently I'm considering making these my surround speakers as I already own 2. (7.1 system). How might these compare as surrounds as to say the fxi a6's? Would this be a mistake? I realize I would have to get new fronts if I were to do so, and not sure which front towers would match the Rti8's as surrounds. Would this be worth doing?

I'm not a fan of floorstanders as surrounds - too low to the floor to suit me. Some do it and like it, so TEHO. I'm not understanding why you think you'd have to upgrade your fronts. There's nothing wrong with using the same speakers all around.

FX series is usually the better choice for most HT applications, IMO.

I udes to have a set of RTi12's as fronts with RTi8 rears and a CSi5 center that I LOVED as a surround system.

I also had 8's as surrounds for a little while and really liked it. If you can do it,go for it.

Ok, y'all talked me into it. Rti8's it is. My thinking with this is that the rti8's have the two 6 1/2 " mids as compared to the one mid in the bookshelf speakers for virtually the same price for a pair. Plus the fact two towers for the surround would seem to fit my room better. The HSU sub hopefully will perform effectively with all these rti8's. Should the new rti8's be placed as sides or rears, and would it be beneficial for 90% HT listening to still get the FXia6's as the other two surrounds? Hoping for Black Friday to produce an good price on a RX A2010 or RX A3010Yamaha.

    Thanks everybody.
