My daughter has a couple year old Toshiba laptop. From what she says the cat walked on it and now the whole keyboard does not work. Is there something I'm missing that can be pushed or reset or do I need to take it in to get fixed? Iknow much more about audio than I do computers so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

Eh, I can't think of anything that would cause the keyboard to switch off. I'd say turn it off, remove the battery, reinstall battery, turn it back on and see if that helps. If it doesn't, either the cat broke the keyboard or knocked it loose from its connectors. If you're the handy type you remove/reattach the keyboard to see if that helps, and if it doesn't, you can buy a replacement keyboard from eBay and replace it yourself. Not terribly difficult if you're not scared of that sort of thing and a lot cheaper than having someone else do it.

Cats can create havoc with the random key pressing that occurs when they get on it. Mine screwed up my laptop more than once by walking/sleeping on the keyboard. Good luck.

Above the mouse pad is a small button that will turn IT off.. which, unless she was in a program, could make it appear she can't control the keyboard. Try that to see if mouse control returns?

    Hope this helps!

1)Plug in an external keyboard and see if it works; this will rule out any kind of software issue.
2)Toshiba's of a certain vintage have a removable keyboard that attaches with a ribbon cable- hit google/youtube for instructions on how to get to it and make sure the cable is properly seated.
3)The cat walking on it _probably_ didn't do this if it's not a stuck key like mentioned above. You might want to ask a follow up question or two. Unless the cat is SERIOUSLY obese. Just saying.
