Anybody get their ears on this yet? Saw them on Letterman last night & was not impressed. If that's the best from the new release, meh...

Listening to it for the first time MOG now. I like it, but haven't yet decided if I'll make it a permanent purchase.
Edit: When I posted that I was three songs in. Then "A Thousand Days Before" came on, and I really like that song. So the album started good and is getting better. More Superunknown than Badmotorfinger, if the comparison helps. -
I just listened to it on MOG,and have no desire to hear it again. It sounds more like the Chris Cornell show than a Soundgarden project.

I like Cornell and Soundgarden. Although some of Cornell's solo stuff has me wanting to puke. Think collaboration with Timbaland.
However, I really like what Morello brought to the table with Audioslave. So this feels like a step down to me from the Audioslave stuff. I know...boo me.
Cornell still has it though. I heard him last year with Pearl Jam at Alpine Valley. I wouldn't think his voice would have lasted this long, but still pretty balls out. Maybe not late 90's balls out...but balls out none the less.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -

I saw Audioslave at the Warfield during the Out of Exile tour. At the beginning of the set Cornell sounded like crap. It was obvious that his voice was taxed. He was hoarse and could barely get through the first song. Amazingly to me, his voice got stronger and stronger throughout the show and after a few songs, he sounded fantastic. I'm a big fan of Chris's voice and he seems to give it everything he has in every performance. With that said, I haven't heard the Timbaland album, and probably won't bother to listen to it. -
Buddy of mine saw him solo/acoustic in Florida this year and said it was fantastic. Played Audioslave, Soundgarden...the whole ball.
The Timbaland album hurt me on the inside.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -
I was initially hesitant to get King Animal, somewhat disappointed that Chris had gone back to Soundgarden. I saw this as going back to making music from 20 years ago versus pushing into new music, like he did on his last solo album. And yes, unlike most, I enjoyed his last solo album, maybe not as much as his Audioslave work, but it is good enough that it is still in my cd changer in the car. As for King Animal, it has really grown on me in the last few days. It has more of a Led Zeppelin sound to it (Zeppelin in their later years) than an Audioslave sound. Additionally, I would say Chris has less of a front stage presence on this album than he did on the Audioslave albums, this album being more dominated by the guitar work than the Audioslave albums. In the end though, all I know is that I am really starting to enjoy this album, and highly recommend it to anyone who is a Chris Cornell or Soundgarden fan.

I dig the songs themselves... but the album is incredibly overproduced. It doesn't have that "at a concert" raw sound that their earlier stuff does, and I want to slap whoever was in control of the reverb and chorus on some of these songs. But the songs are good, so I would imagine they would sound awesome live. As far as whether I'll be listening to the album much... Probably not.Equipment list:

Listened to it twice already its ok. Its been shelved and I tend to pull out Badmotorfinger or Temple Of the Dog, when I'am in the mood for some Cornell, and will continue to do so.Home Theater
