What type of service life can one expect from tubes in the Dared Pre stages?

Depends on the tube. But 3000-5000 hours is typical, w/more robust tubes like Telefunkens, Mullards, Siemens, Valvo and others that are vintage to last 5000+ hours. Tubes manufactured today you can expect probably 1/2 that life simply because materials and methods aren't near as good as in the heyday of tube making. Military grade tubes can last 7000-10,000 hours since they are typically designed to high standard.

That's about a general overview. It can vary, but vintage, older made tubes are made with more care and better materials and can last a lifetime or longer.

    Hope this helps

Thank you H9. When I bought the second Dared I also bought his stash of vintage tubes. I should be in good shape for quite some time.

When I connect the SL2000A, I do this through the processor loop on the GFP-750? Using the switch on the Adcom to switch between the two? Processor out to one of the Dared inputs. Output from the Dared back to the processor in on the Adcom.

    This is fun.

The SL2000A is a preamp, and I see no reason to run it through the processor loop on the GFP-750. You should be running one preamp or the other; am I missing something?

If you want to use both pre-amps for flexibility then that's the ticket. When I listen to background streaming music or HT I run the GFP-750. When I want to sit down and enjoy a nice listening session I fire up the Dared running it through the processor loop. It's a pass through, and beyond an extra set of cables, it passes the signal intact. In my rig I can run active or passive SS or tubes.

I thought I understood how you had done this but was not sure if there was anything that had not been mentioned. I read the section in the manual for the GFP-750 but it does not discuss the possible issues of piggy backing an second pre stage.

ZINGO, It sounded strange to me at first also. I had read a Dared review done by H9 on an audio review site discussing his use so I knew it could be done. Out of the preamps with a passive mode the GFP-750 had this capability (others may as well) so that is where I focused my shopping.

    Thanks everyone

It is redundant in that you have 2 pre's running, but in my case it's great since I tend to run either one depending on mood/application. It's not necessary, but it adds some flexibility if that's what you are looking for.

I understand the redundant part. I was looking to do the same thing you did. (otherwise known as a shameless ripoff )

It was the being able to go back and forth at the flip of a switch that was attractive to me.
