Looking for 2 handsets, good reception, good battery life, answering machine function and ease of use of basic functions.

Tons of sets from many manufacturers out there.

Have heard too many people complain after making purchases.

Any recommendations, advice as always is appreciated.

We've got a Panasonic that I've been very happy with - all of the features you described. No idea about current models; we've had these for several years.

+1 on Panasonic 1.9 GHz Digital DECT 6.0 Plus Systems, 2-6 handset models available, on sale from newegg and Amazon frequently. Nice easy to operate features, no interference w/other wireless systems being used, and 2 std AAA rechargeable batteries make for easy maintenance.

Another +1 on the Panny. I used to have a Uniden that was OK. It worked with no problems - but the Panasonics are much nicer. Only complaint is that you can't search the caller ID (I used to be able to type in a name if I was looking on the caller ID, now I have to cycle through them all)

Couple of nice features on my particular model (I can provide a specific model # later if needed) - I love the talking caller ID, having a universal phonebook is nice (the Uniden had a seperate phonebook for each phone) and visual voicemail is nice (you can choose the message to listen to based on a caller ID tag, rather than just hitting play)

I have the Panasonic as well. Another nice feature is the ability to listen to messages on all the hand sets. You can also call in and listen to them remotely if you are out of town. There is also a call blocking feature. So you can make a list of your favorite telemarketors.

I completely forgot about the caller ID blocking. That is a must have in itself. Now I filter my own telemarketer calls. It also blocks unlisted numbers as well (I think it might be blocked, not unlisted actually)

I believe I bought my Panasonics from Costco - base and 2 additional handsets (3 total). Cost me roughly $100-120

    Agreed on the Panasonic.

I have tried them all due to Costo's liberal return policy.

And I am sold on the Panasonic.

The only feature that I wish was available was a Handset to Earbud Bluetooth connect feature. It's ony Bluetooth capable as a cell phone to base station feature. Worthless for me.

This is what I have and I like it, the thing is just get 6 of them and throw them all around the house, you can intercom them, so we assign each room a number and know how to call a certain room. I even have one out in a detached garage.

Another thing is make sure you get the DECT phone as they run at 1.9 ghz and are not likely to interfere with your wifi and other 2.4 ghz wireless products, unless you know your cell phone is running at 1.9.

As we all know,While the mobile phone brings great conveniences to people, it also raises new challenge on the security of confidential work. In recent years, the wiretap, cheating in examination, medical negligence and gas station explosion with mobile phone occurred and it has aroused great concern of the society. Maybe it's one of the reasons that promoted the appearance of phone jammer. You may be watching a nice movie or enjoying your nap when you get free for sometime. Still you have chances of getting disturbed with your most loved ones and close friend chatting near you on the cell phone. At such hours, if you really care for your free time then you need to buy a cell phone jammer.

UNIDEN hANDS DOWN THE BEST SET i HAVE EVER USED. They sell them at Sams and it may come with an answering machine and 2 or 3 hand sets but the reallly great part is the large either yellow or green hand set that is SUBMERSIBLE. i DO A LOT OF STUFF OUTSIDE AND SOMETIMES LEAVE MY PHONE OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT AND IT HAS SPENT A FEW RAINY NIGHTS ALL ALONE. It charges magnetically and the set, arount $80 is worth this phone alone.,

I have used Panasonic phones for at least 25 years. The only reason for a new one is when it gets hard to find batteries for the one I have. Officemax, and Office Depot have great prices and a good selection.

I hate my Panasonic! The ring tones are not easy to distinguish what room the phone is in (almost like a good subwoofer placement). I found it difficult to program, or deprogram, sound quality in the ear is not great. My old Uniden was better.

BTW, I have a 20 year old Bell telephone (not cordless) that operates in power outages, in more comfortable than any cordless and the sound quality is great. It's my phone of choice.
