Which speakers are best for my setup?

I have a Pioneer 5.1 system 625 watt which is 125 per channel. I'm looking at the Monitor 70s but I'm worried 125 is not enough to push them. Ideas? Currently using Polk 10inch sub and a pair of T15 bookshelf speakers. Wanting the Monitor 70 as fronts and put the T15 as rears.

You should be fine in getting the 70s. I pushed my TSi 500s for a while with just a receiver for a while with good results. The 70s are just about the same as mine so go for it and enjoy.

You could certainly give it a try. I tried it a couple of times and never could notice any difference. It wouldn't hurt to try and see for yourself though.

Doesn't work that way. However, I would go with the 70's anyway. Your reciever will be fine, though. Of course, adding an amp down the road would bring them to full potential. However, I run the setup in my sig without an amp and I'm very content. YMMV, but at the price of the 70's, your not out that much. Their on sale right now at newegg.

What is your budget and what are looking for out of the speakers? Music? Home Theater? Both? Rock? Jazz? Medium volume? Or Stupid Loud?

Well since they are on sale for 150 they are in my range lol. Would I be better getting higher end book shelf speakers? Mostly TH but also music. Pioneer VSX-821. Moderate listening level mostly

If I go with the 70s and later add an amp I read it can be bi amped. So could I buy a lower powered amp such as this http://www.crutchfield.com/p_543X75/Russound-X75.html#overview-tab and use the power from my avr to power them and not over do it or would I buy an amp to solely power the 70s?

Let us know how you like them.

I ordered the same thing on Friday as soon as they went on sale.

My receiver has about the same exact specs as yours, except it's a Yamaha.

The vsx 821 does not have pre-outs for the main channels, so adding an outboard amp to power the M70s is not happening. Sorry.

So they would have to be rears to have an outboard amp? I'll end up upgrading my avr once I get all the speakers first

Besides the sub pre-out, the only pre-outs your amp has are the front height and the rear something or other. IMO, unless you go a couple of levels up with the speaker upgrade, the electronics should be upgraded before the speakers instead of the other way around. Otherwise, you'll end up with hardware that outclass the speakers. That would be a waste of potential when considering how much money typically goes into an AVR with pre-outs and a decent amp. By the time you've gotten around to all of that upgrading, you will want something way better than the monitor 70. This is especially true when you already have a sub.

I had the Pionner VSX-521k driving my M70s, CS2, & M40s. They all sounded really good and I could raise the volume louder on th eM70s then any human should be listening to music without distorting. (vsx-521k is 110w/ch.) Go into Setup and change the speakers size to large for the fronts and center.

Thanks everyone I received 70s today hooked them up I do need to change the setting from small to large but first off I can tell a difference I have to turn the volume louder but they sound great I also hear the need for a center. Will update after adjusting settings and breaking them in some. Side note no damage from shipping!
