My first 5.1 system
Hi all,
I am about to build my first surround setup. As a first step, I was planning to buy 5.0 and then add a sub in a couple of months. I live in an apartment in a high rise so my living room is about 215 square feet. So, I am thinking to buy this month the following:
- monitor 40s series II
- cs1 series II
- monitor 30s series II
later I will buy the psw10 or equivalent 10" sub..
What do you think of the choice of speakers? Also, I read that a horizontal center speaker does not perform as well as a vertical speaker. Would I be able to sit up the cs1? There is no way to buy a single monitor40 so I have three of those for the front stage. I am not even sure how would I put a vertical center channel but we will see..

Welcome to the club there azsam. I like the Monitor line and have some M40's and I think they are hard to beat for the buck. It looks to me that it will be a well balanced system. Keep the center speaker horizontal either above or below the tv and you can place it right side up or upside down, point up from the bottom at an angle or on top pointing down on an angle. Best of luck and report back.Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

OK, great. So are you saying not to pay attention to the horizontal vs. vertical center ?

The cs1 will work fine with that setup, however, the cs2 can be had for not much more and is a much better center from my experience. I wouldn't worry about horizontal vs vertical. Most just run the horizontal center speaker directly below (preferrably) or above their tv.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A

Yes, not to worry about vertical. Next look for a nice little sub.Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,
