They are rs6s, typo on my part.

Northwest speakers in atlanta did the work.

Only took 3.5 months.

In fairness, its a small shop that specializes in reconing and refoaming, mainly pro gear, started by a bassist decades ago who could not find a shop to service his stage gear.

Also, i told him these were not my main speaks, and i was not in any hurry.

Let me tell ya, Im officially hawking my time windows and looking for some big infinitys.

I have always loved the sound, and with new caps, wow.

Lets just say im on a new leg of my audio journey.

Absolutely nothing against the dcms, just moving on.

Good luck finding them! They don't come up too often around here. I bought my RSIIIa's from a dude around Atlanta very cheap. Redone the XO's and damn....I'll probably never get rid of them. The EMIT tweeters are outstanding imhho.

Don't you have some other Infinity's? Or did you sell them?

I did not know you had yours recapped, well then you know.

I do have some kappa 5s i got from jerry j12, I refoamed them, havent listened to them in quite a while, prob. put them in the mix tomorrow.

Wish i had bought the kappa 8s and crescendos from the same guy I bought my old stack of adcom amps and pre and cd player.

The guy had just brought them up from the basement after years of storage, was ready to sell them all.

Tried to keep in contact about them, but he ended up being a true weirdo, so just kinda stopped talkin.

I recapped them myself. It is very easy to do. Made a huge improvement. I'd like to hear those 5's.

i just bought a pair of RSb's, re-foamed the woofers with Orange County surrounds. so far so good, and the crossovers are next. then a light sanding and refinish on the veneer.
i love my redone Polk 11T's, but even with the old caps in the Infinity's, i was amazed at how differently voiced the two pairs sound. i love the Emits as well, but the mids are so... smooth....
i now need to have two systems....

    N.E.W. A-20 class A 20W
    NAD 1020 completely refurbished
    Keces DA-131 mk.II
Analysis Plus Copper Oval, Douglass, Morrow SUB3, Huffman Digital

Speaking of RSIIIa's check out this listing that showed up yesterday. Pretty awesome price if they work. I am not sure what they are worth but it has to be more than the asking price.

Ouch, all the speakers need re-foamed and lord knows how bad the crossovers might be....

I didn't look at the pictures very closely. I didn't realize how bad the foam looked. Guess there's a good reason they are so cheap. I just happened to run across the ad about the same time I saw this thread.

Jimbo, I tell ya what. If you'll pick those up and hold them for me I would appreciate it! I'd even compensate you for your time!

Enders, sorry but you are way off the mark here. Refoaming those drivers is very easy. Probably around $50-$75 in parts. XO's can be updated (if on a tight budget) for around $125. And that again is very easy to do. And also.....you ever seen what a pair of EMIT tweeters go for on the bay? So roughly for around $250, counting the asking price, those would be damn worth the investment and time.

    EDIT: Nevermind, they are gone!

Just realised i had not posted pics, by the way, the little 5 is on the right on top of the time window.

Hooked them up last night, they need power, but after about 1 oclock on the volume dial, they really sang, unreal bass for such a small speak.

Sorry for the tease, halo. I didn't realize they were gone already. Of course, getting to you would have been problematic anyway. I don't travel that way much and when I do except on vacation on my way to Gulfport, Miss.

No problem Jimbo. I might could have made a road trip for them. I called the guy. I think he realizes now that he gave them away. I think he said they were in a storage building he had bought at auction, or something along those lines.

Good to know, appreciate the information. I know the older Infinity stuff is good (want some Kappy 9's at some point) but thought the availibility of foam surrounds (assuming the drivers themselves are not damaged at all and that if they are still are easy to find) made it a not so good option.

Now I know in case I ever run across some. Thanks!

You are welcome! There are many vintage Infinity models I'd like to hear. Kappa 8/9, Renaissance 80/90 to name a few. As badly as I want a pair of SDA's I would not sell or trade my RSIIIa's for a pair. Well...unless they were 1.2, SRS etc.

Yup, there was a forum member selling his entire Kappa setup (9's, 7's, 2 5's together as a center) here that wasnt too far away and was tempting till I realized I didnt have: A) The space for em, B) a way to transport em, C) a way to pay for em, D) a wife willing to let me in the door with em . Then it suddenly wasnt as tempting

EDIT: Yeah that Kappa set up that was for sell was a screaming deal! Also if you are looking at vintage Infinity speakers. I would stay well clear of the SM line. To me they are rebadged Cerwin-Vega's.

Got no room for em (not gonna get rid of my LSi setup anytime soon), or anywhere near the cash they are asking for. My cash right now is going to my Carver M1.0t refurb and pimp out project currently at Vintage Hi-Fi. That and some new IC's and SC's.

My "office setup" is a room 10x11 lol, so those would be beyond overkill and I dont even have a reciever in there right now, just two Monitor 60's looking like they are powered lol.

    Hello all,
yeah, I Love my Infinity kappa 7.1's, I've had them since 1993. They sound great with my new amp, Music hall a70.2. Here's a pic of the bedroom system.

I heard that the kappa 9's were amp killers, because their impedence would fall to 2 ohms alot, it would take a very powerful amp to run the 9's.

    pretty setup ducati.

I have heard some pretty scary stuff ablout the 9s, although i think its usually when trying to use inferior gear behind them, although i am far from an expert.

I also seem to remember there are mods to, I believe, the crossovers, which would help with that problem.

They dropped to .8 ohms in a few spots. Not a lot of amps will like eating that for long.
