Wyred ST-500 vs Parasound 2250

I've read good reviews on both so I'd like to hear from you guys what you think. One fits better than the other but if there's a big difference in sound quality between the two I can always accommodate. :wink:

    I'd go with a warmer sound of the Parasound, maybe the Halo series. I think it'll match brighter speakers better

    So the reviews I've read that say the Wyred is warm and good for brighter speakers is not true or is the Parasound warmer? Also I just want to compare the 2250 to the ST-500 not the Halo.

    I wouldn't say one is warmer than the other, rather a different signature sound is all. The W4S is going to be more upfront, more detailed while the Parasound will tend to be a tad laid back while also supplying some nice detail.

    Wyred is dead neutral. Plus they're a better investment, check out their resale on Agon and elsewhere.

    They're pretty much ID so they can make a certain price point. There are a few dealers who do have them available for demo, but not many since the profit margin isn't large. Wyred does offer a demo program though: http://www.wyred4sound.com/webapps/p/74030/117839/740671

    Good to hear this from you guys. I was set on getting a Parasound but the Wyred has a better footprint for me. I'm still going to do some more research on this tho.

    Curious, why a 2 channel amp?

    I am also looking at a w4s, either the mini 3 or the 3x250. Prefer the 250 since most opinions are you cannot have enough juice and hope this would not be a waste of money.

    Not to hi-jack your thread, just hoping to get some more comments on the wired products.

    Ya know, I really haven't decided if I want or need a 5 channel. I guess my main concern was the 7's. Although they seem to be doing ok with my Yamaha but my thinking is I could get more out of them with an Amp.

    gce, I'm not an expert by any means, but I think it would be best to at least amp the fronts and let the avr handle the surrounds. I prefer 2 channel music and surround theater but do not hear enough from the surrounds to warrant adding additional power to them. Feel like the 27 can handle this and zone 2 by itself.

    It's been a 5 year process acquiring everything, so my 7's have only been in surface for a week and from others on this board there's a break in period. Maybe they will open up with time but still thinking/wanting a separate amp.

    I'm thinking of something crazy to do and really don't know if it would even work. Get a 5 channel amp and use 3 for my front HT setup with my AVR powering the surrounds and then later get a Pre-amp and use the other 2 from the amp for my 2-channel music cutting out the AVR for that. I don't even know if that would work! :neutral:

    You will probably need to get a standalone set of speaks for the 2 channel side. Other than this, I don't see why it wouldn't work. You might have just given me a future upgrade idea.

    Check out Class D Audio as their shop is in Anaheim as well. Tom's a cool guy and Polk speaker owner, and his amps sound as good to me as W4S.

    His amps(Class D Audio) can sound quite different depending on the impedance load. I'd stay away unless you're on a strict budget.

    Interesting observation and I know he can tune the amps upon request. I've only had good pairings except horns, but I expected that going in.

    I bet Tom would let a local demo one if you're interested; it would at least let you get your ears on something without buying it which is rare these days.
