Polk Audio Monitor 11 - are these good for me?

Does anyone know anything about these? Local guy has a set of these he claims are in a 9/10 condition and has gone on about how rare they are and how much better they sound vs. newer Polks and newer big box store speakers in general, and at a fraction of the cost..

im trying to piece together my very first real setup (only own a 12 year old Sony home theater in a box).. Iv been debating between some different setups (trying to stay on a budget) and came across these. Not really what i was originally looking for style wise, but the fact that they seem to have good reviews online and each speaker has a 12" woofer, i may be able to eliminate the need for a dedicated sub?

If i dont grab these speakers, im thinking of something along the lines of Polk Monitor 60s from newegg.

does anyone have these speakers or have had them or heard them? What are your thoughts? Im setting up a man cave / media room in my 20x20 garage with a projector and 120" screen. These would be my primary front speakers and then would have to add a matching center speaker (any ideas what would go good with this?) along with some rears and maybe a sub, maybe not?

so apparently they are indeed rare and alot of people think they sound good. But me being such a newbie, i read online and alot of speakers get good reviews. I guess my question is, would I be happy with these for a 5.1 or possibly 7.1 home theater setup? Probably wont listen to music a whole lot, 90+% for movies.

And since they have the 12" woofers, would I need a subwoofer or would these produce enough bass? Also, if I did indeed go with these for my left and right fronts, what would be a good center speaker to compliment them?

There is no guarantee that you'll like their sound as it depends upon your ear, listening type, room etc...
But, overall, they are considered very nice speakers.

They'll work great for HT as front mains and should have okay bass but not enough as a dedicated subwoofer.
You also should get a matching center channel for these to sound good.

It does NOT have a 12" woofer- that is a passive radiator- which does increase the bass response but is not an active speaker. It has 2 6 1/2 drivers and the tweeter. If you are going mainly home theater, then their are probably better choices avail. Some people use smaller vintage Polks as their center such as a 5jr, 5 or even monitor 7 but you have to have the room to do that. They would be great for music if that was your desire and $200 is a fair price if in great shape. Good luck with your search.
