i am currently putting together a 2.1 system to rock my barracks room, i have a psw 110 and have ordered a polk RTi6 pair and a denon 1911 avr(i also need surround option and hdmi handling capabilities) but the 2.1 is my area of focus, do you recommend wall mounting the 6's for front channel and 2.1 use or would a shelf/stand be better use, wall mount is a more feasible option at the moment, small room, 10x17 roughly, one snubbed corner 3 feet each direction, concrete walls and ceiling, tile floors

I don't recommend wall-mounting the mains. Having speakers that close to the wall usually results in a "chesty" midrange and possibly "boomy" bass. Stands will allow you to fine-tune that distance and the reflections off the wall. It usually doesn't require much space--something around 12" or so from the wall. You're also going to want to at least put a large rug on that floor if you can, as the reflections off the tile and concrete are not going to be pleasant.

14 gauge will be sufficient, but 12 would be better...

I have the Denon 1910, which is the older version of your 1911. If I were using it mainly for music listening, I honestly would choose something else. It's very HT-centric, IMO. It will be OK, just not ideal.

What sort of source will you be using for music?

i have stated this in my other thread, will put here as well(not trying to talk down to anyone), im in the barracks on a military base and in less than two years going back stateside, and when i do i will have a 7.1 ht and a 2.1 audio system, and at the price i found that reciever for, i couldnt pass it up(not looking for an award winning HT, just a decent surround to watch some blue rays) also, i have a small rug, about the size of my budget actually, and my souce is primarily my zune hd with hd/optical dock, or my laptop with hdmi out and (better than nothing, but also not a real bragging point) the beats audio software

OK. Sorry, I wasn't trying to knock your equipment. Actually, I bought the Denon for the same reason also (the price used), and it does a decent job in my 5.1 system.

With that said, I would do 14AWG, but I would definitely use some cheap stands rather than wall-mounting if you can pull it off.

wasnt trying to accuse you of that, i havent ordered it yet, gtheyre having a sale on their sit, ordering it in ten days when i get payed, and my current set up doesnt allow for any position except wall mount, unless i get a tv stan, put my dressers under my bed and move my sub, and idk, or possibly wall mount my tv, and place the speakers slightly under it next to the center

if not too much price difference, I would go with Rti6....and that's what I have currently...mine are mounted 6" from back and side...

wall mounting is fine and since you will be using it for two years, I don't see why it won't work for you...i run my RTi6 and CSi5 as small speakers and crossed them at 60-80Hz....

its pretty rad sometimes, need to mount my tv or speakers so i can position speakers better though, and maybe jump up a size with the tv, but suits me fine for FPS and blu-ray, my neighbor above tries to compete with his HT in box but fails, plus some better cables and the rti4 will be here next week, im excited about it, best part is all the building managers are friends so in noise complaints they try to side with me if its not during quiet hours, these sony speakers cant handle the higher end at volume though, they kinda go a high pitched ring/whistle sound to them, and get a lot of distortion with some of my music, cant wait to move them to surrounds, although considering putting one as a center for now

    stands in a barracks room???

    I'd wall mount them

I had my Rti4s and RtiA3s wall mounted - worked just fine - and that is why Polk designed the power port on the back the way they did.

will it seem natural with them mounted above the tv?

Are you forced into mounting the speakers at some sort of height?

What is the layout of the wall you plan on placing the tv and audio equipment?

Can you raise the tv to match the height the speakers would be at?

Just to give you an idea or two....this is what my rig looked like when I had my RTi4s wall mounted with my plasma

current set up wont allow, although looking int some different arrangements, the wall is 7' across then 45 degrees for 3 feet then 45 mor, the other corner is 90 degrees, i have a dresser 18 inches tall the tv, avr, spekers and xbox sit on now,the dresser is two pieces side by side, with a lip so the tv is stuck, unless i mount it, or mount the speakers, they wont be higher actully, just went and looked
