i am at a complete loss right now. i am trying to connevt my onkyo m-504 to my rta 12B's using my kenwood kr-5600 as a preamp only, with more confusion coming in attemping to still being able to use my dynaco equalizer.

there are 2 inputs on the m-504. the 2 jumpers on the 5600 have been removed to bypass the amp section, leaving a right in/out and a left in/out. this is where i had the equalizer connected originally. at this point, i have the amp inputs wired to in left/right on the kenwood, and out left/right still hooked up to the equalizer. i am getting no sound from the sprakers; the meters on the amp are not even moving.

i have no idea what to do, or what to try next, and would appreciate to no end if anyone has any idea's. and thankyou!!

I hate it when logic wont work !
if the eq worked the amp should .
is the eq is on a tape moniter loop ( did you switch on the tape moniter )
most stuff has no "live tape moniter" to allow the eq to function , I think my sony es may if you turn the source select knob the other direction ( but never tried it just noticed the light stays on ) but on the es the signal would be off w/out a eq hooked up .
My advice try w/out the eq and plug the 504 in the preamp output loop , once that works try the eq dont be surprised if the eq wont work .

thanks, 20hz. i've reached a point where i am not concerned about the equalizer. all i want to do is figure out how to connect the m-504 amp to the kenwood as a preamp and get sound to the speakers, using the volume control on the kenwood without blowing my speakers.

Dude, from the Kenwood outs to the amplifier in's, connect speakers to the amplifier. You can not connect an "in" to an "in" or an out to an out. Think about how the signal flows. Kenwood outs to amplifier ins. Do not do this with the equipment on, make sure everything is powered off before hooking things up.

Forget about the "equalizer" for NOW! And just do what you're supposed to do, above! Get some sound going and then you can come back to how the equalizer can be integrated into a "tape loop" monitor. Don't try and deal with that now if you are "confused"!
