Integrating Oppo BPD-103

I am going to move some things around in the cabinet. After reading threads and a call to OPPO I bought a 103 model.

Here is what I have and how I think I am supposed to wire things for best effect. I have a Dish Network receiver, CD changer, Blue Ray player, and Yamaha AM/FM Tuner from the age of the dinosaurs.

The OPPO replaces the CD changer and Blue Ray player. From the Dish receiver I plan to take the HDMI out to the OPPO using the OPPO DAC and settings to provide the two channel out to my GFP-750. Which set of inputs on the GFP-750 should I use or does it matter? The BPD-103 does have a variable out to set levels with other gear.

The OPPO claims to be able to condense (for lacks of a better term) multi channel formats to two channel. At the minimum the DAC in the OPPO has to be light years ahead of the one in the unit from Dish Networks.

I know there are setting to be tended to after the fact but wanted to check my basic plan.

If you are coming out of the Oppo R/L Analog just run it to the Cd input on the Adcom.
You want to use both 2 channel and surround?

Two channel only. I am currently in a short term rental while we get my new place into shape.

In the OPPO set up there is a section on audio output. I am supposed to be able to tell the unit that I want two channel out and the OPPO is supposed to sort it out for me. Phantom center sort of thing, I think It has to be better than the Dish unit.

I get to eliminate two sets of interconnects and two power cords while integrating what is supposed to be a great player.

I will post a few pics of the cabinet once it is done

Do you have any more of the gaskets? My cabinets had issues around the openings from living on the coast. I should have addressed it at the time but did not. I could use another full set for the SDA2a

Sorry gaskets are gone til enough people warrant another run of 500.
The Oppo is great.Getting ready to sell my 95 and go to the 105.I have used them from teh early days with zero issues.
There is a setup for "down-mixing" in the settings i think you are referring to for the 2 channel. You'll be fine.

This is all well and good but do you carry OPPO players in the cars? You cannot come here for just a tease like that, we need real info.

ps: I suspect you are about to be banned.

brgman: Do we need a gasket waiting list thread like the one for Larry's rings?

I read the manual before ordering and saw the feature. Thanks for the confirmation. The two channel out of the Dish receiver is not bad. The new unit should be much better.

My Lowes does not carry armacell. If you had to order for gaskets what would you buy? I can order the armacell but not sure which one to buy.

    Worked fine but wasn't purty.

I did do the dynamat extreme. I have Larry's rings and went ahead and did the JB weld treatment just because I was there at the time. I wish I had known I could convert my 2A's to 2B,tl's when I started but live and learn. The crossover mods for the 2a are pricey. I have four moretite seals due to my **** up your gaskets.

I bought them for $90.00 (stole them I was told) and am $600.00 in full upgrades less spikes. I have not heard the $600.00 a pair speaker I would take in trade.

This OPPO should provide a better output stage and do a damn site better job of spinning disks compared to what I have now. I hope so anyway as I am sick of spending money

Where are the pics of the girls LIMO dude?

did you do the xover mods yourself?
what speaker cables do you have
they matter (to me at least)

The system sounds nice to my ears anyway. A piece here and a piece there and it adds up over time. I doubt I could take the money it cost to a brick and mortar place and end up with anything as nice. I wish I could take credit but the group here had more to do with it than I did. All I did was write the checks.

I did do the crossovers myself. The group here got me sorted on the parts so I sat one afternoon and knocked them out. All of my cables came from Signal Cable. Not being able to listen to other systems I do not have anything to compare them against. The build quality is quite nice and Polkies get a discount.

I also bought the extra warranty. So far it seems to be a great little unit. I have not networked it yet but that is next on the agenda.

How long ago did you fire them up?
    after the xover mods.
It takes a while for them to come in.It may be 100+ hours before you start to really hear the xovers at their best.

I did the crossovers right after I sold my old house so it has been three months. I did hear changes as they settled in. Between the tweets and crossover mods the change was dramatic over the stock cabinets. The stereo lives at the opposite end of the same room where I put my desk. I flip on the radio in the morning and shut it down when I go to bed at night after watching the tube. It can run for fifteen/sixteen hours straight and I never get tired of listening.

I have been sneaking up on this for the better part of a year now. As I said above I had loads of help getting here, the end result is nice.

I fell good about the OPPO purchase. Using Lasareath as an example there are numerous members who have bought multiple units and seem happy with them. I like the idea of set it and forget it purchases.

I have had the chance to play with this unit a bit and can say that the two channel out kicks the crap out of what came from the dish receiver. Running TV the sound is fuller with no loss of the voices. Seems to go a bit deeper on the bottom. Watching Pirates of the Carribean on BluRay last night was much the same result and much better than the Sony BlueRay player from Wally World.

    Sweet little piece of gear.
