Complete newbie: connecting to jack

Hi all, I just got the Polk Atrium 4 from Amazon and simply want to connect them to my laptop or smartphone. Unfortunately no cable came in the box and I don't recognize the speakers' connectors (because I know nothing about this). What cable to I need to buy to do so?

Those speakers require an amplifier. You need to get some sort of powered speaker if you want to hook into a laptop or phone.

Your gonna need something to put power to the speakers. Reciever to the computer. Speakers to reciever.

Ouch, I didn't expect that :-(. More questions then:
1) What's the cheapest amplifier I can get if my objective is to watch movies at home and occasionally listen to music? Is this ok?
2) what cables do I need to connect the speakers and amplifier?
3) what cable to I need to connect the amplifier and laptop/smartphone?

1) look on craigslist for a cheap reciever.
2) speaker wire.
3) splitter, male headphone to 2 RCA audio.
