Sound formats...

As most of you know I recently purchased a TiVo unit and could not be happier with it. Anyways my question is this. I have it hooked up with a Monster Fiber Optic cable. When I switch my receiver over to SAT/TV input I notice it's decoding in PCM Linear 48Hz. I beleive that's the correct format or at least something along that line. Anyway, what type of format is this. I'm pretty sure I notice quit a difference in sound or is it just my mind playing tricks on me. Thx.

This is a digital thing. CDs have a sample rate of 44.1kHz and video uses 48kHz. You probably aren't hearing a much of a difference in sound for that reason. You could be hearing a difference if one source is low resolution analog and the other is digital.
