I have often heard of "Timbre" matching of speakers and it got me to thinking. Does it matter if you match the sound of electronics ? What I mean to say is that as an example..........If you have an Onkyo 809 receiver, but you want to amp the power to the front two sides and you use a Parasound amp does this make your two sides sound different than the rest of the system ? I have read reviews on different amps and you get the usual descriptions of warmer, fuller, tighter bass etc etc when these amps are described as an add-on to a system.

The difference in amps is usually much more subtle than the difference in speakers. That said, I'd always prefer to use the same type (not just brand but model) on all speakers in a multi-channel setup.. not just for timbre matching, but also gain matching. Again, that said, having a significantly better power source for your fronts is never a bad thing, even it it means that they'll have a slightly different tone. Room correction mics should take care of it.
