You will need to give more info like room size, seating position, is this a dedicated media room,do you want a 5,7,9 or even as far as a 11.2 system, $$ to spend on it ?

Budget system solid sound. I'm not sure 7.1 vs 5.1 the difference in sound. Dedicated room, Room size 22x18

    Welcome to the "Club"

Couple of questions that may help to answer your question(s):
    What is your ceiling height?
Is the flooring wood, carpet or tile?
How much money are you willing to spend?

Id' like to be around $1,000

That'll get you a good AVR, but nothing else.

Go with a polk rti system, CSI5 center $160 RTI 12 $800 RTI6 $160 rears FXI5 sides $200. Get a used pioneer elite sc 35 with ice amps for $850. Then buy cables from signal cable and top it off with a new oppo player for $600. Scrap the in wall speaker idea because things change as tastes mature and you dont want to ripping your walls up plus you will have more placement flexibility

Welcome to the club. If your set on in-walls and in ceiling speakers, browse Polks products to match what will fit your needs. We don't know if this is a start to finish build, a home that is already pre wired for built in speakers, the size of the holes or what will fit, so it's hard to throw out willy nilly recommendations.

Thing is with built in speakers, you won't find too many on the used market as you would with regular box speakers and that can go along way in stretching how much you can get for the buck you spend. Seeing that your budget is on the low side for a 5.1 system, you may want to reconsider. 1000 bucks will buy a good avr and no speakers. You can go cheaper on an avr but you'll lose power and options. Used of course is another story.
