A co-worker was asking me about bigscreen HDTV suggestions and HT audio today. He's looking at a budget of $1500-2000 for the TV and another $800-1000 for the audio portion. I've about got him convinced into the RTi28's (4) along with the CSi30 for speakers, assuming I can get them at a bargain price, though he has yet to listen to anything. What receiver would you guys suggest? Keep in mind the budget and my interest in a decent balance of speakers/receiver. I've been glancing over Sony's though I hate most of their equipment bar the ES series. I've considered cheaper Yamaha's as well. I basicly have Best Buy, Circuit City and HiFi Buys as local dealers to choose from.

I can't hit the site for some reason right now - but check out harmanaudio.com for factory direct closeouts and refurbs on Harman Kardon HT receivers. You'll be suprised what you can get for your $.

    Cheers,

Scornful,I don't know if your bub would be interested or not,but I have a very good start-up AVR.It's a Kenwood VR-6070,6X100,THX cert. with about every option you could ask for.

I bought the receiver new about a year ago,it's flawless and has never been abused.I recently picked up a Denon AVR,so I would like to sell the Kenwood, drop me a PM or an e-mail,I can send you or you're friend some pics and more info...Thanks for your time...

    Mike,

I'm not sure he will want a used piece. No offense. I offered him my old RT800's and CS350LS but he hesitated a bit. Thanks though.

I found speakers at Crutchfield for a fair price and a decent receiver at 6thave.com

    RTi28's $200/pr
    CSi30 $150
    FXi30's $280/pr
    PSW-202 FREE
    HK AVR125 $240

    Total $870

I'm a bit concerned that the 202 wont be enough, but I've never auditioned one either.... anyone have any feed back?

on ecost.com an h/k 225 refurbished goes for $224, bought one myself, works awesome, have had it for 3 months now and no probs, the only thing is if there is a problem with the unit it must be sent back to h/k, they stand by their products though and the warranty is 2 years

I would take the $200 credit instead of the free 202 sub and put it toward a nicer sub.

What do you guys think of this....

    CSi40
    RTi38's
    FXi30's

these rather than the 28's and 30. It come out to the same money. $630 but without the sub.... I see the sub as a serious weak point anyway. The good part is I have all of these speakers at home, so I can give him a decent demo... except the sub below.

add something like this cheaper sub...
