SDA IC Placement...

Now there is a guy with his Dahlquist speakers sitting..man maybe 3 feet away from him. OK thats fine..works for him.
But after seeing that i said what the hell let me put my seating position...someplace that is supposed to be right.
I moved my seating positon up to like 10 feet from the SDA 1C's (which had been 15feet).
Now i don't think i lost any SDA effect..i played a bunch of stuff, Hendrix electric ladyland...the music was still flying around the room. CSN...not a problem. But i did have to turn this down volume wise. With any new music, you can't go over much more the 10:30 oclock on the volume.(this all depends on the source material) If you play "classical" music..which is recorded for the most part low..you have to turn it up.
Now if you play Beethoven say symphony # 9 I do tend to crank it up..not what you would hear at the MET..the volume would be more. But the 2000 tweeters in the SDA's are not killers..I'm sure the RDO's are better, but have not put them in there yet..but to be blunt....the 2000's....don't make your ears bleed.or sound all that bad. Just a note on this...not much more. I'm sure the RDO's sound better.
In moving my seating position up...I'm not so sure it buys me any thing. In fact because the room is so large..maybe you may lose some of the SDA effect... Not sure..but i will have to go down and listen again with new ears..see what the story may be...LOL
Just a statement, not sure anybody cares...but just what i did, and what i found out...at least to me.

Nearfield listening can "fix" some problems with room acoustics. I don't know that 10 feet is considered "nearfield".
Maybe all that happened is you found a different set of nulls/boosts that is more appealing than what you had before. -
What are the dimensions of your room? How close are your SDAs to the side walls, and how much space is in-between them? If you look in the manual, you should be sitting at least as far away from the SDA's as they have space between them. However, due to room dimensions, acoustics, etc, you could find that moving slightly closer or further away might sound better (as Schurkey pointed out about Nulls and Modes).

Are you really b!tching about a gasket laying in the bottom of a cabinet? Or just kidding? I would hardly call that poor quality control. Now if you opened that cab and found Jimmy Hoffa's bones. Then I might have to agree with you.
