Hope I'm not stepping into dog poo here, but I found these on eBay for not too much dough. I didn't buy them but sure thought they looked cool. I call my brother in Sacto Ca to ask his opinion and here;s what I got "Bang & Olufson are made to look cool, not sound good" so I thought to bring it here and see if anyone here knows of this brand?? I never heard of it myself. The seller is the original owner and bought them back in 78-79 and the come with original cord all said to be in perfect working condition. Are they junk??

Agree, they sound OK, but they put their energy into modern design rather than performance.

Their speakers were quite good in the European polite, quick, refined idiom - if you like the vintage Polk "monitors" you'll likely enjoy the b&os. They were quite expensive in their day. They used excellent drivers, and the better ones featured nice rosewood enclosures.

I am still trying to understand how the OP couldn't know about bang & olufsen?! :-)

I have a pair of B&O S45-2 speakers and they are still one of the smoothest sounding of all the monitors in their size range. I believe they used mostly Seas drivers. I remember listening to the S75's, but don't remember the S80's. That series of B&O speakers with the S30, S45, S60, S75 is something you should experience if you find them in good shape and not butchered with modifications.

They also used Philips and Peerless dome midrange and tweeter drivers.

I've got a pair of S-45s from my favorite local emporium awaiting refoaming (and scrounging up a pair of two-pin DIN connectors of the proper gender) a-sittin' in the basement.

mhardy - I'm in KC this week, however when I get back to IL next week I might have an extra set of the DIN connectors that I can send you. I'll pm you if I do. I converted my S45-2 to regular speaker connectors.

I have always liked the sound of B&O systems. The receivers, turntables and speakers. What they are generally lacking is power, but I have always thought they sound "smooth"!

Hey, have owned and used several components from Danish B & O in a long time.
Most of the vintage is of very good quality hifi, first in the early 1990s, fell quality.
Bang & Olufsen focused then more on fancy disign, it resulted in quantity electronics.
I guess the speakers you are considering is a lot of good sound for little money.

If someone needs to make diy cables for B&O or B&o hifi components to other products, this is a very good link:
