I know it's always best to ask before buying...but I made an offer on this CD player and didn't really expect him to take it. It's an AMC CD-8a. Good player for $75?

I notice that some of the reviews are referring t5o it as a "tube" cd player. Does this eliminate the need of a tube buffer? The difference between genius and stupidity is; genius has its limits. -Albert Einstein

I own the AMC CD-6b-5404as (Class A tube output). Two DACs per channel. It is a great CD player. Not an end all be all by any means, but for it's selling price ($750.00 MSRP) it performs outstanding. I haven't heard the CD-8a but I would imagine for $75.00 it is definately worth it based on the sound AMC's equipment (I also own one of their tube pre-amps and amps).
I don't know about the t5o as I haven't heard of that particular player from AMC. The CD-6b-54-4as does eliminate the need for a tube buffer as it has a tube output in the player. If the t5o has the same output then you won't need a tube buffer.
Edit: Ha ha! I reread you last post and noticed that you were not refering to a particular player with the t5o, you were trying to type "to". Ha ha!
That said, I don't know if the CD8a had a tube output (maybe the later versions)? If it does have a tube output installed you won't need a tube buffer for the CD player.
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I have no technical knowledge, so reading up on it, I never read "tube" in any of the parts descriptions, but the title on many review referred to it as the CD-8 Tube CD Player. I can only imagine that "tube" would refer to tube outputs, but then again...what I know about "tube outputs" wouldn't fill a thimble! The difference between genius and stupidity is; genius has its limits. -Albert Einstein

The CD8 series do not have a tube output. I own a CD-8b and it's a pretty good player with a very recpectable analog output.

Thank you for clearing that up. I appreciate the info. I wasn't sure what, if any, the difference was between the A&B.The difference between genius and stupidity is; genius has its limits. -Albert Einstein
