Well at least it not the guy that is local to me that is trying to sell a pair of 12's for 800 missing the top covers.

I quess that cover is meant to help keep the speaker on the stand. Other than that I think they are ugly

Those top hat covers are most definately NOT originals, but the rest of the parts look to be there. I would throw the top hat covers away as the fabric looks to be too thick and is probably not helping the tweeters at all. Not personally a fan of the RTA line as if I am going vintage I prefer the SDA line myself.

Price seems a bit high IMHO.

Those are actually really great sounding sounding speakers. The top hats have definitely been damaged, or the fabric has pulled loose. All I know is the original hats on my RTA-12Bs looked the same way after my physcho ex went on one of her tantrums. Also look at the passive radiators. There seems to be some sort of worping on the material for those also. I would pass on this set, but if you find another set of any of the RTA-12s (A-Cs) in good shape, I wouldn't hesitate to buy them. I had a pair the same time I had my SDA-1Cs and there were some things the RTA-12s actually did better.

Some of the 1st gen. passive woofers had the bubbling problem bad. Every top hat on the earlier RTA12's I have seen looked just like those.
I agree much too expensive for the work you will put into them.

Too bad, they are nice speakers. And how many people keep the top on, in any case? They look so much cooler naked!

Those covers look like some covers the Gibbs cars had on the front of there Nascars a decade ago and everyone was wondering what they were hiding.

Agree mostly, except I would be on the lookout for RTA 12B's or C's. They have a different Xover than the A's (originals), no stands and image much better.

Jeez; I guess I sold my recapped and regasketted rta 12's way too cheap last week for $125. And it looks like a child attempted to recover the top hats on those ones.

That's a good price on that ADS. Too bad there aren't a pair. If you've never heard a pair of ADS you owe it to yourself to spend some time with a good pair. They're among my favorite vintage speakers. Not prodigious bass, but they get almost everything else "right"!

Agreed; A lot of more of my formerly well liked speakers will be leaving here since I brought my 810's home. Pair them up with a quality amp and they're some of the most pleasant sounding speakers that I've ever listened to.

That's one of Polk's cooler vintage model and always worth a listen....unfortunately that particular pair is just plain awful and there's not much to redeem. And the kicker is that the price is equally terrible and they should just be set on fire. I've collected about 3-4 mint pairs of this loudspeaker over the years and donated a pair to Polk and the museum. The only thing these would be good for is a couple parts from the xover assembly. The top hats are busted and cannot be repaired.

CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
