I think this is a Monitor 5. Are they a decent speaker? What issues should I be concerned with? What are a pair of these worth?

Yes, yes, monitor 5B's with sl2000 tweeters.
    :)
    Nice speakers.
Check the mid by pressing on the cone.
It should freely push in and out.

That certainly looks like a M-5. Silver dome SL-2000, 650X mids, and 8" Passive Radiator. It's a nice speaker. You can upgrade the tweeter if you want to RD-0194s later.

Price: 70-110 roughly. Depending on shape. Those seem to be original so I'd say definitely less than a 100?

nevermind M5 it is. At first look it looked like M5jr. until I compared the woofer sizes to the cabinet.

I think it is a 5B like mine (photo below); the 5jr has a smaller PR (6.5"),methinks, and a smaller box.

EDIT: I do NOT think that the photo currently appearing under "Vintage Products" on the Polk website is actually a 5jr.
One may observe a photo of a 5 vs. a 5jr on the download (free registration required) of the 5jr, etc. manual from http://www.hifiengine.com/library/polk-audio/monitor-5jr.shtml

EDIT^2: or, better yet, see: http://www.polksda.com/monitor5jrplus.shtml

If I'm not mistaken, Not all Monitor 5 series were 4 ohms but the 5Bs you have probably are! At least I'm pretty sure those are 4 ohms.

Enjoy! There a nice speaker. I have some 5As that sound fabulous!

They are not mine and won't be. They popped up on CL for $25, but I wasn't quick enough.

That's a MAJOR steal of a price! And they look to be in very good condition. If something even close to comparable condition and price pops up, don't hesitate, just jump on it. That's a fantastic speaker!

    Snooze, ya lose!

Polk Audio had a tendency to invoke the "specifications may change without notice." Apparently, earlier versions of the 5B were 4 ohms and later ones were rated 6 ohms.

The Monitor 5 Series II (1990) was rated 8 ohms.

I believe the Monitor (Model) 5 and 5A were 8 ohms.

Don't sweat it. We all have been beaten by others in many good deals.
To give an example, I missed out on a SDA 2b for $30.

Another deal will soon come along.

I've found that the SDA effect isn't very evident when you only have one speaker!

Missed 'pair of' in between so it's worse miss than missing only one.
