Haven't gotten outta Dodge for a vacation in a couple years. We've booked a stay in NY. We're only going to be there Sunday afternoon to Weds. morning in mid November. We're staying at The Manhattan Club which is basically 56th and Broadway.
Just wondering if any of you New Yorkers or anyone who has been to New York has any info, guidance, tips, etc. for us. We're planning on seeing a Broadway show and go to a comedy club plus see the sites.
Thanks, Dave

Go to Carmine's for dinner. If you can't get reservations on 44th St in the theater district, go to the one one the upper West Side. Make sure you go to Central Park, the 9/11 Memorial is amazing. Also, for eating you have to go to an NYC deli. Go to Katz's Deli on 205 E Houston St. This is the place where Meg Ryan had her famous **** scene in the movie "When Harry met Sally" Link: http://gonyc.about.com/cs/atozindex/gr/katzs.htm
Link to **** scene LOL!:

You can spend WEEKS touring NYC.
Statue of Liberty,
Chinatown
Little Italy (off of Chinatown)
Ground Zero, now rebuilt
The Museums (MOMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim)
Little India (Eastside 6th Street and 1st Ave.--been a while but great Indian food)
Koreatown restaurants (areas in the midtown 30s off Fifth Ave. and Madison Ave.)
Empire State Building
Rockefeller Center (of 30 Rock fame). Low 50s, 6th-5th Ave.
Strolling/shopping up Fifth Ave
Central Park
Museum of Natural History (I interned there for a couple years) and the Planetarium (Central Park West above W79th st)
Greenwich Village
Delis above are great! Also check out Desserts at SERENDIPITY (in the 50s)
Lincoln Center (66th and Broadway on the #1 subway)
Bronx Zoo
Broadway from 42nd St up
72nd and Broadway Gray's Papaya (get some hot dogs and a Papaya juice, now a NYC landmark)
Washington Square Park and NY University
116th and Broadway (Columbia University--originally envisioned as Manhattan's Acropolis)
Tired yet? This is just scratching the surface! There are some Polish restaurants (or used to be) at 1st street and 1st Ave. East side.
Got extra time. Book a boat trip around Manhattan Island (can't remember the company).
Visit the West side where a number of Warships, I believe are still on display.
See what's happening here:

Take the subway to Astoria and tour little Athens (in and around Steinway St).
..............
The city is your "oyster" and NO ONE can do it all in a week. I lived there for almost 12 years and was just getting accustomed to it when I left.

Love me some NYC. I stayed at The Manhattan Club about 9 years ago. Good location. I've only been 3 times so I won't offer any suggestions. I'm jealous, I want to go back too!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. We are planning on taking a cruise and basically try to see as much as we can. I doubt that we'll be running into the museums. I know it's gonna be a pretty expensive three days.

No museums? Some of the best art in the world there. A little culture never hurts? No matter, tons of things to do. I used to do tours for friends who stayed with me when visiting the city. We'd ditch their cars, since parking is not only a nightmare but "costly" and use public transport.
Whatever you decide to do it'll be fun!

Since your staying in the Times Square area, you won't have to worry about where to go for shows, comedy club, food, etc. The area is ready made for visitors. The hotel concierge will help you narrow your choices. Yelp is great if you are particular about your food choices. All of the hotels in that area offer discount info on shows. For the things you've mentioned, the Times Square area will have you covered.
If you want off the beaten path you will have to be more specific as to what you are in to. If you want to see old colonial New York City, the financial district in a great place to visit. The blocks are relatively small and dense with sites. I work across the street from the U.S. Customs House, which is a beautiful building inside and out ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Hamilton_U.S._Custom_House ). Many many movies and TV shows are filmed in the building including Boardwalk Empire. You can get the ferry right across the street to the Statue of Liberty and you can have a drink at Fraunces Tavern (http://www.frauncestavern.com ) where George Washington once drank on your way back from Liberty Island.
If you find yourself in the East Village and you want to score some music, check out Other Music on East 4th Street ( http://www.othermusic.com/index.cgi ) always great finds in a very well organized used section no matter what your tastes. I highly recommend Brooklyn for some of the best food you can find in New York, but a couple of might not be enough as there is a lot of ground to cover depending on your tastes. Download Hotstop for getting around the city. New York City subways are the absolutely best way to get around the city on the quick and cheap. Trains run every 10 minutes during peak times which are about 7 am - 11pm . and make sure you buy a 7-day unlimited pass which can also be used on NYC buses. It will pay for itself in one busy day.
