Using commercial power amps with SDA SRS ?

Funny thing about the folks that use or think about using PA amps, they don't seem to use or think about using PA speakers. I mean, if those PA amps are so damn good, those PA speakers must be just as good, right?
So how about it you PA amp users, why aren't you using PA speakers?

My whole reason to post was - I had heard really good things about people using the new Crown's for home audio use, the high power capability, being 2ohm stable, the better than you would think sound quality - all intrigued me.
I can afford to spend 8k on an amp, but having 2 pairs of SDA SRS, and the fact I already own a lot of power amps - 20 plus, but all are 200wpc rms or less except my 2 Carver TFM 55s - I was looking for a bargain without spending McIntosh type money.
Did not mean to create a ripple on the Polk audiophile pond, just was hoping somebody had good insight into using Crowns with Polks - Do you need 800 watts plus rms plus to drive SRS SDAs, nope - but overkill can be a good thing. My car does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, do I drive in that fast ? - Sometimes, but it just feels good knowing I have 1 horsepower for every 4 pounds of weight on my car. [Factory Five Roadster Mk 3]
I love audio that sounds good regardless of cost, these online forums are a great place to learn tons of great info, but forums also bring out a lot of petty arguing. Sound is completely subjective - we all hear differently - , it would be like 10 people spending hours arguing over the shade of a color.
I love my big Polks, will mod the crap out of them once I get back to the US, and this site is a wealth of knowledge on making a great speaker one of the best on the planet. Not as good as Bose, but good enough - lol
Thank you for all of your replies, I am in a tent in north Afghanistan and this site and your posts help pass the time till I am back in the USA. -
Personaly if I were in your situation, I would just use those two TFM-55s to passively biamp those badboys. You already have a lot of good amps (you could do the same with the GFA-555s you have also), so using what you already have will give you all the power you need and then some and sound better doing it to boot. Take the money you saved from not buying any more amps, buy a decent tube pre(if you don't already have one) and you are in audio heaven! BTW, thank you very much for your service and Godspeed!

Your Nak PA-7's will sound fantastic on the SRS. Your biamped 555's would sound great too. You'd be hard pressed to find something worth the time and effort to sell them and stay within your $2k budget. You know, however, that it is impossible to withhold the desire to try new stereo equipment. I hope you find something you enjoy even more!

I like eminence woofers and JBL or Altec horns with my carver pro amps. Of course a pair of SDA SRS or Amazings would do in a pinch.Vinyl, the final frontier...
Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -
Yes to both questions. It might be stretching it a bit but my Mcintosh mc2500 could be considered a pa amp. And yes I do run a couple of pairs of pa speakers in some of my other set ups. Pa speakers actually sound pretty good in the backyard.

What people?

The people that wrote the many positive reviews I have read all over internet about that series of Crown amps - Google reviews of these amps and see for yourself - there is an overall very positive response to them even in home use.

You missed my point

Been there, done that with bridged mono Crown XLS 602D amps (preamp was a Sunfire Theatre Grand III) on Polk SDA SRS 1.2 TL's. Sounded thin. Dumped the Crowns for a 50 watt integrated tube amp. Rich, full sound. YMMV.SDA SRS 2.3TL's
