Hello,
I'm looking for a particular type of lubricant in moderate amounts. If anyone has: Mobil DTE 25 or Shell Tellus 46 or Exxon Nuto 46 or Texaco Regal Oil R&O 46 in 50ml quantities I would be happy to purchase.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers, Ken

Just a suggestion Ken. If you know anyone that works in a machine shop. I'm sure they have what your looking for. Its a pretty (DTE 25) standard hydraulic fluid used in the machines. They usually buy them in 55 gal drums so i'm sure they would just give you what you need.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses. I'm trying to find a suitable lubricant for the Thorens TD124 I'm working on. The original oil specified by Thorens was Texaco Regal Oil B which is described as a hydraulic power transmission fluid. Then, in the Thorens service manual, they say, "Use a non-sticking, high grade light mineral oil (SAE20)". So far I've determined that a modern equivalent is Regal Oil R&O 46, but that seems difficult to find. I've found that Mobil DTE 25, Shell Tellus 46 and Exxon Nuto 46 are similar. The problem is that these products are mostly sold in 1 and 55 gallon amounts which would supply all the Thorens turntables ever made let alone one. The actual amount to be used isn't specified by Thorens, but best guess seems to be 10 ml down the bearing and another 10 ml coating the shaft. Another web source recommends filling the bearing 1/3.
If it were a perfect world I would have a couple of different lubricants and try and measure the bearing noise using a mechanic's stethoscope connected to a microphone connected to a spectrum analyzer with one oil and then try another.
The bearing clearance is 0.004" and I know that the lubricant's viscosity can effect the level of noise. The bearing shaft shows some very slight scratches that I'm going to try and polish out. There seem to be some scratches on the upper Teflon sleeve which I can't do anything about. I suppose I can try some usual SAE 20 motor oil, but I wanted to see if I could find others.
Thans, Ken -
I would think 20w non detergent oil would be a good choice for that bearing clearance.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *

Thanks, SComp, Toolfan66 has generously offered to send some DTE25 for testing and I'll pickup some 20w oil for comparison.
