I have a set of RT3000p, love the speakers but starting to get discouraged in the amps. I had purchsed two directly from Polk less then 3 years ago now one has failed. What to do.

I would suggest contacting Polk CS and also a local repair shop and compare the two options. Just because you picked them up 3(ish) years ago does not mean they are that young.

good luck with finding parts for this one. I find it strange that Polk stopped supporting or making parts for their high end speakers. the Right amp in my SRT system burns the fuse instantly everytime I put a new one in. I called Polk CS and they are no longer fixing it. Your best bet is find someone local to fix it. 1 member in here said he can fix it, but he is far away. I am still thinking about shipping it because if UPS damage or loses it, there is no way for me to get a replacement.

You mean GM doesn't make parts for their high end cadillac from 1957 either ? C'mon man, do you really expect speaker makers to keep parts forever ? For every speaker produced ?

When buying vintage, you best be a good DIY'er or know someone who is.

I believe the warranty is only for a year. I bought 2 as well about 3 years ago with one as a spare. When I needed the spare it was doa due to a cold solder joint and was told it was out of warranty. That being said, the repair was done for free.

I had this amp and 2 original amps repaired in September of this year so definitely call and good luck.

I have sent a couple of messages to the cs center and no response yet, but only been a couple of days, also emailed the CS guy that I purchased them from last time (Kyle Shufelt) not sure if he is still working there. Just hoping to hear back. I will give another day then I will need to call if no response.

    Hello polkrt3000p,
I'm sorry you're having problems with the bass amp. Kyle is no longer working for Polk CS, I would recommend contacting Kim Jasper at kjasper@polkaudio.com or calling him at 1-800-377-7655 extension 208.
    Regards, Ken

Has anyone bypassed the amp, I have two Adcom 565 (300 watt)Mono Block running the tops. Would I see a huge decline in sound. I bypassed the RT100i speakers with a 100hz cap using my Pioneer M-90 200 watt per channel reference series amp and sound fine. I just don't think I would get the results I can get from running the 300 watt Polk sub amp and the 565s running the tops it is like running 600 watt per channel. I am guessing I would take a step back in power, but the Monos running the tops have plenty of power to drive more. Just some thoughts. I know I will need to get a passive xo if I bypass the board. Finding a good x0 might be a challange without spending a fortune. I would hope to do it for less then $50. I would just put in a 100hz cap on it.

I have been thinking about bypassing the sub amps and just using an external amp. I was going to do it with the external crossover in my processor and use a separate external amp for the subs. You could get a good pro amp for not that much if you don't have a spare amp. (I have way too many amps right now, so finding a spare amp is not a problem for me.)

well, I think you forgot that they put money into R&D to make new tweeters for SDA speakers, which are way older than RT series. to me, it sounds like Polk just wanted to forget these speakers and move on, since they didn't sell so well.

I know I would like use the 3000p amp since that was the selling factor for me. 300watt sub, when working they shake the house.

Is the subwoofer amp tuned to produce a "custom" frequency-response curve to compliment the speaker system?

If not, I don't know why a better/more reliable amplifier couldn't be swapped in.

My dream of one day owning a set of SRTs might not happen, sounds like the amps are issues on them too. I hate it when stuff is down in my system, drives me bonkers when stuff is broke. I was in a massive search for a nice turntable to upgrade to and listen to on my downstairs rig with my SDA SRS1.2tl up front, two CS400s and the RT3000p for the rears. Running multiple Adcom amps and using a Sunfire Preamp, now looks likes I will be down. I just spent most of my stereo money on a Denon turntable and Shure cart, didn't plan on this. Just frustrated...

I don't get what you guys are talking about "not making parts" for it. Having mine apart several times and back and forth to techs for upgrades, I did not see anything that can't be purchased at a technical electronics store.

They apear to me to be pretty standard and as straight forward as most any plate amp.

The real thing I would be concerned about are the 8" sub drivers as they were developed specifically for these speakers, and used in no other model. That is why I have 4 spares ;)
design is where science and art break even.
