    I get such a kick out of your posts. Well sometimes....every now and then I guess. Lemme ask ya this though. In one sentence you complain about the "nonsense" in this thread. Then in the next sentence you take a dump in the OP's for sale thread saying his asking price is "a bit steep". That is nonsense! If you think his price is high you should keep your mouth shut because nobody asked you to open your book!

    From my research and knowing what friends have paid for the same amp and what they sell for at a local hi-fi shop,

    I would say my price is quite fair and on the low side. But, you know, stuff is only worth what someone else will pay for it ultimately.

    it wont break my heart if i end up keeping it for while, I love it, its just overkill for 105 db efficiency speakers.

    I'm looking to try out a pass labs aleph 30, so if anybodys got one i'd be interested in a partial trade deal.

    One question .A guy posted here wanted to know if he should get a MAc 2300 or a Parasound amp.I told him that Jerry Garcia used 2300 in his guitar rig for years. My question is since you've owned the thing how is it as a home amp w/ the fans going and being
    nearly 150 lbs
    Yes Mac has it's fab rep but this just might be a bit much for a home system. Me personally I would love it and I previously said I would take Mac 2105 w/ 105w a side w/ the meters over my Acom at 200 watts a side but I am a sucker for those meters.

    I have a few questions about the amp.A poster here was deciding whether to go w/ Mac 2300 or a Parasound amp.I told him that Jerry Garcia used the 2300 as his power source for his live gig rig. Now since you've owned this thing how is it in a home setting. They
    have 2 fans going not to mention it weighs close to 150 lbs. So is it a fit for a house (no way for an apt) and given my amp the Adcom has 200wpc does anyone really need the juice that this puts out.It does look in great shape and as I have said before I might give up my Adcom for a Mac 2105 w/ the walnut case at 105 a side.

    In my home setting it is a wonderful amp and sounds great.

    The fans have 3 settings, thermally switched- low/high, and continous high.

    I have it set at low and have never once heard them come on, the amp just runs cool. I think it is a testament to its build quality, its built like a tank and weighs 129 LBS.

    I have run some lower sensitivty speakers(compared to k-horns)Polk monitor 10's/ SDA3.1tl's/ADS1230/1530's, and it ran them all effortlessly even at 120db volumes. the 1812 overture at 50 watt average output on ADS 1530's was breathtaking.

    The Blue meters are just icing on the cake to the robust performance this amp is capable of.

    There is something to say for never having to worry about having enough power and headroom even with difficult to drive speakers.

    I really don't need to sell it, it's just overkill for running K-horns but sounds wonderful doing it even at .005-.05 watt output.

    As far as it being a bit much, I think that everyone has their own opinion as to whats a bit much and whats just enough.

    There are plenty of folks who need this kind of power for their low sensitivity speakers.

    There is also a certain pride in ownership with MCINTOSH gear. this will not be MY last MCINTOSH AMP. I believe i will end up with

    mc30's or a mc275 eventually. I just have an itch I want to scratch with some Pass labs gear first.

    I hope i've answered your questions well enough, if you want to talk on the phone, PM me your number and i will be more than happy to discuss this amps merits whetther you are interested in buying it or not.

    if your in the boston area you are welcome to come hear it if you'd like.

    p.s. I too am a SUCKER for the blue meters.:smile:

    Regards,
    John S.

    The math doesn't add up.

    McIntosh MC2500 - 500 watts per channel into 1,2,4 or 8 ohms

    Polk Audio SDA SRS 3.1TL's - 90dB @ 1 watt/1 meter

    Watts = dB

    1 = 90
    2 = 93
    4 = 96
    8 = 99
    16 = 102
    32 =105
    64 = 108
    132 = 111
    264 = 114
    528 = 117
    1056 = 120

    I guess i wasnt clear enough for the math police. LOL., i ran them all effortlessly, some of them to 120 db.

    and actually the math would add up pretty close for the 3.1's, you forgot to add 6db for a second speaker and room gain.

    the mcintosh is also known to bench test at up to 650 wpc.

    THE DB readings were according to my rat shack meter, no telling how accurate it is as it has not been thru any certified calibration that i'm aware of.
