I am renovating (in Sydney) and taking some baby steps towards home automation and distributed media. I am a music enthusiast at heart and believe that I will spend 80% of time listening to music and 20% with movies. I have bought a Denon 3313 7.2 channel receiver and a pair of Polk LS 65 in wall speakers + a pair of Atrium 4's. I was going to use the LS 65's for front speakers and the Atrium 4's for outdoor speakers (zone 3) - I was then going to build from there. I have read lots of information and am wiser but also confused. Because I am renovating at the same time is seems wise to buy additional speakers now. I have decided to go with Polk based on a recommendation form an AV friend in Orlando. If I had an additional budget of $750 - $1,000 can anyone recommend the speakers that I should consider keeping in mind that 80% of use will be for music.

My vision is to acquire a Homeseer Home automation system with Z wave controllers (looking at a 10 piece starter kit) and a Swann Security DIY home monitoring kit. I will then try to integrate these with the Denon AVR 3313. The Denon will control sound and image to Zone 1 (family room), Zone 2 will be the kids room (TV + Polk sound bar) and zone 3 will be the outside sound to the Atrium speakers.

Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

To fill out the rest of the speakers, are you looking for inwalls, something that can hang on a wall, bookshelf speakers ? Also, if you plan on using 3 zones from the receiver, make sure the other 2 zones can take digital or hdmi inputs or you could run into issues down the road with other gear you may want to run. Some receivers only take digital connections on the first zone, analog connections on the others. Not saying thats your case but worth it to check out before you buy anyway. seeing how your using the zones, you may want to check to see if you can run more than one zone at a time too.

Not familiar with those home automation systems you mentioned, just make sure they have capability out the ying yang and will work with a host of equipment. Love you crazy **** down under btw.
