New computer rig

After roughly 10 years of using an Altec Lansing 2 channel computer speaker setup, I decided it was time to do a big upgrade. The Altec Lansing setup consisted of bass box with amp (I hate calling it a sub) and 2 satellites. It did its job for 10 years and for a computer speaker in a box setup, wasn't too terrible.
I got ideas from the Polk Fest HQ tour, then scored some great deals on the Polk Ebay site. You really can get some great deals from their Ebay store. Silky smooth transactions and FAST shipping via Fedex.
I'm still waiting for my cables from Signal Cable (this week coming up), but the components are here and unpacked. I have a Denon 3803 receiver that's been sitting boxed up for the past 4 years. From the Polk Ebay store I scored a DSWPro440wi subwoofer and a pair of Monitor 30's. From Signal, I have 2 pair of speaker cables and a Mini to RCA cable on the way. So...Mini to RCA from my 27" iMac and into the Denon 3803. From the Denon into the Polk Sub, then out to the Monitor 30's.
In the photo, the Denon will sit on that table thats behind it (will be on my left when sitting) and the sub will sit next to the table on the right, in the corner under the desk. Of course, the Monitors on the left and right of the Mac.
Should be a HUGE improvement and provide sweet sound while listening to tunes on the Mac or streaming Netflix.
Will update once the cables arrive and everything is hooked up and thumping the computer room!

Good little setup.....now lets talk about your labeled nerd books.
Elaborate please......:twisted:Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
They all look to be Star Wars books....
Real Nerd books are ones like: Enders Game, The Mote in God's Eye, Lord of the Rings, A Stranger in a Strange Land, ect "....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." The bottom row on that one bookcase are Star Wars books. Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Contact (Carl Sagan), Complete works of HG Wells and more nerd stuff reside on another book case. Stephen King takes up over half a bookcase alone. No excuses!

Nice. I had alot of books at one time. Good on ya, nothing wrong with nurturing the inner geek...
Everything with the rig sounds good, except for the apple. F#ck apple... -
With all this digital book stuff out now, I still love having the physical book in hand. There's still that traditional side of me that would rather have a hard bound book in hand instead of on some digital device.
I'm taking down the Altec Lansing setup today and assembling the new stuff. Just waiting on one set of speaker cables and the mini to RCA.
I've learned to forgive and love Antny no matter what. I know it's the Jersey in him that he just can't help. :biggrin:No excuses! -

Agreed. Something more fun about looking at your favorite worn and tattered book you've read 5 thousand times as opposed to just opening up a digital copy. Nothing better that a late night reading a book start to finish!"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I spy with my eyes an ikea table!
I like owning physical books but honestly i really enjoy just plunking down with my 10" tablet to read.HT: M5510-Prox2/PN51E550/NR708/M282(3)/RTi A7/CSi A6/FXi A6/DSWPro660x2/PS3/HTPC

Here's the final setup of the new computer rig. FAR FAR better than that Altec Lansing mess!
No excuses! -
Sweet looking setup man.

Wow, that office is neat. Mine is post cyclone...
How does it sound now you're done??? -
That should be a nice set up. I've run M-30s on a Denon AVR like that, and they're a good match. With the sub filling in the bottom end, very nice, indeed!
But I'm with amulford above. My office is a total mess compared to yours, you would not believe what is in there. Inner Nerd? Books, yeah, an entire lending library (wall to wall bookshelves on three walls). CDs and DVDS, etc. Papers, adapters, several pairs of vintage speakers, vintage recievers, CDPs...forget about it..!
I'm envious of the neatness above!
Enjoy!

Polk Lsi-7s, Def Tech 8" sub, HK 3490, HK HD 990 (CDP/DAC), AKG Q701s
[sig. changed on a monthly basis as I rotate in and out of my stash] -
I got tired of working in a post cyclone, so I did a major overhaul of the room. Painted the room about a month ago, then did a major cleanup of the bookcases and files along with crap on the desk. The end result...clean living.
Oh it sounds badass! It's real nice to have big solid sound for the computer rig. Minus the receiver and one set of Signal Cable speaker cables I already had for several years, it ran me about $450 total for the setup. The sub and monitors were off of Polk's Ebay store. Went to Signal for the other cables. No excuses!
