Das Boot - Superbit

Being one of my favorite movies, I have the DD version, but was wondering if any of you folks have compared this to the Superbit version in DTS. Would it be worth the re-buy? I bought the DTS version of Saving Private Ryan and WHAT A SOUND DIFFERENCE THAT WAS!

I think it sucks that Das Boot is still spread over two sides, but I'm sure that's simply due to length while still maintaining A/V quality.

Big review on the differences over at HTF. The Superbit version apparently has a better looking picture, and it's pretty obvious with a quality player.

The decision was more split on the sound. Not so much as an obvious improvement with the DTS, and surprisingly, a bit less bass power (if I recall). And the sound track was already weak compared to U-571. In fact I always bump the sub a few clicks for Das Boot and the bass comes right into line with U-571.

Finally (again IIRC) the German soundtrack is not available, only the English voice over, which sucks IMO. The proper way to watch Das Boot is in German with English subtitles.

That's the ONLY way I watch it, too (German with English subtitles), so that takes this one out of the re-buy option. Thanks, Doc.

Kev - double check that - going from memory. Big review over at HTF, I think.

    Edit:

    It does have German.

This review is in the minority about the PQ. He likes the DTS too.

Thanks for the links, Doc. Looks like I may be swaying back to buying this one, if the price is right. I'll keep an eye out.
