Yeah, I know its not audio but I figure this bunch has to know a thing or two about coffee makers.

Looking for a drip maker, with thermo insulated carafe, makes great coffee, works and dont leak. Has to have an auto on.

What you got !

Looked at consumers reports and Amazon reviews, not finding anything that fits the bill. Maybe Bunn but they look pretty industrial.

So the first reply is going to mention a maker without auto-on:redface:. I have the Velocity Brew BT: http://www.bunnathome.com/ Brews a full pot in about 3-4 minutes, so the auto-on is not as important. Still might be a deal breaker for you, but it brews a good cup of coffee. Get it at Kohl's when you have 20-30% of and your in business.

I have a kitchenaid, like it alot. Been dependable too, unlike alot of other mass marketed bean drippers. My other fav was a Bunn, but for some reason they never added a pause and serve feature or a timer.

Unrelated to drippers but.....Costco currently has an insane sale price on the Keurig Platinum w/ 80 asst. K-cups. Regularly $150.00 and worth every penny, IMO, it is now selling for $35.00 off. That price is equivalent to what you'd pay for a base model w/out the added bonus 80 cups. These brew a fresh cup each time in seconds, so no need to keep old coffee hot in a insulated carafe. I grind my own blend of beans and use a refillable K-cup, better than the prefilled cups and A LOT cheaper too ! Just a thought in case ya feel like trying something new. (other than audio gear)

I highly recommend a USA assembled Bunn coffee maker. They do make an auto-on version of a thermo-insulated carafe maker. The Phase Brew HT found here: http://www.bunnathome.com/products/phase-brew. Just make sure it's assembled in the USA (ant NOT China) before you purchase one. I have read that the same Bunn coffee maker models can be made in either country (both countries) so I recommend double checking before purchase. Let us know what you get.

Look into Technivorm. One of the only drip machines that is going to get the water hot enough to do a proper brew.

Looks cool, but 300 bones for a 10 cup drip ? 13 amps worth of draw ? You'll be popping circuit breakers when someone flips a light switch or the fridge kicks on.

Somehow my good man, I think good coffee can be had for a few bones less. Like we say around here, it all starts at the source....the beans baby.....the beans.

Then we move into everything matters......water, filtered or not, temp, the machine itself....maybe an upgraded power cord would help or Trey can do some Fortress modds to it.

hahaha, put a Pangea power cord on that Technivorm to help with the immense power draw!

But yeah you are absolutely right. One of the most important things is freshly grinding just before brewing, preferably with a burr grinder. Other important considerations are water temp (I take the temp using an infrared thermometer), and exact steep/brew time (for french press).

I must have had a few of the Bunn coffee makers that were made in China. Had a problem with them leaking ,will never buy another Bunn again.

I got a Zojirushi for a friends birthday about 6 months ago, and he says it is great coffee maker. He drinks a fair bit of coffee and uses the auto timer since sometimes he is up very early. I suppose, he could just be saying that as it was a present. However, he has thrown his previous coffee maker out.

I'll let you decide. Below is the link to amazon where I got it you can read the reviews. Most are positive but like with anything there are some one star reviews.

I have a carafe drip brewer from Braun that has provided good service over the years and meets your requirements, I just don't use it much. I prefer a french press for my coffee.

I think the most important thing to consider in any coffee maker is making sure that the controls are on top of the unit. I ruined a coffee maker by "one too many" spills into the controls that were on the bottom of the unit.

Thanks guys, some solid recommedations for sure.

The one we have keeps overflowing onto the counter. It gets great reviews on amazon but some people do note the same overflow issue. WHatever the reason it is out, just need to find something to replace it with.

You have to pay special attention to cleaning the lid. It probably has a little float in it that gets stuck. Takes a couple extra seconds, but saves a lot of aggravation...

My grind and brew was doing it, still does occasionally. I might bust for a new lid, they're only $5.

I'm right there with ya Brutha! I've had my Cuisinart Grind and Brew for almost 4 years now and it's still going strong. Sipping on a big mug of fresh ground and brewed as I type. Once every other month I run a pot of distilled white vinegar mixture through it to keep it clean. I do a 4 cups vinegar / 6 cups water mixture, run it through, then run a pot of just water after that.

    Go with a Cuisinart!
    No excuses!

Hands down the best I have found, especially with the right beans.

We have a Krups auto drip maker that has been working well for a couple of years now. Reasonably priced. As with audio - its about the source material (da beans)!

Spot on with the source material comment! In the end, it's all about da beans!

I used to love getting the Starbucks beans years back. I can't stand the taste of them now. Tastes like burnt cow manure! I don't care if it's a mild blend, medium or bold...it all tastes like burnt cow manure. I've been getting alot of specialty blends from the local Coffee and Tea store (they're a bit pricey though), but recently tried a big bag of the 8 o'clock beans. Not too bad!
    No excuses!
