Maintenance on AVR's & Amps

Just checking to see if anyone here does regular maintenance on their equipment, and what is recomended..such as cleaning, blowing/sucking the dust from the internal parts?? This may have been covered before, but I am not seeing anything about it here?? I do have a couple of Oreck clean air machines in the bedroom and a Oreck Tower cleaner in the living room, so dust is greatly reduced, but not totally removed from the areas where I keep my electronics. I do have small fans blowing in the upward position on mt 2 receivers and one power amp, so keeping these units fresh is important to me. Anyone??

I have a lot of dust in my apartment so I try to surface wipe my equipment/rack with a soft microfiber cloth every few days.
As far as my PC, it sucks in a lot of air so it needs to be blown out with compressed air every 3-4 months or so. Yes, I am guilty of waiting way too long to do it. I would assume you could do a similar thing for the receiver/amp, just pop the cover off it and take it outside and blow out the dust with a can of compressed air. -

Panty hose is what I use for a fan filter for my PC. I clean mine every 4-6 months and it's quite clean inside when I do. -

May i also suggest vaccuming is better option than blowing dust out of equipment. Blowing can push dust into other nooks and crannies. A good portable vaccum works best. We use one to clean the computers thats powerful enough at around 3 inches to remove all of the dust bunnies from the boards, fans and power supply.Living Room

I have a '90 Kenwood Dolby Pro-logic AVR around here somewhere. It has "never" been cleaned, probably has dust in it, but still plays fine when called upon for garage duty. Also have an old Sherwood receiver (mid-70s) "never" been clean, layer upon layer upon layer, looks like a fire hazard in there, but I can't pry the wood case off it to clean it. Nonetheless, it still works and even receives a clear strong stereo FM signal. Now, am I saying, don't clean anything? Of course not. I'm just saying that these pieces surprise me. The Sherwood needs some DeoxIt, at least!

I have always been weary of using a vacuum anywhere near my PC due to the intense static electricity that can get generated by the motor. But, maybe this is just a myth and it's perfectly safe, I'm really not sure. -
