Alright, bonus season in just a few short months away and I think this year I will be able to get a pair of speakers to start a new 2-channel only system in a spare bedroom in my house. Though again this is a few months away, I want to get some suggestions this week before the rocky mountain audio fest this weekend.
The system will likely have a pair of Kef R900's as the speakers as I heard the 700s and LOVED them.
I will have my Adcom 5802 for power, a marantz dv9500 universal player, and my squeezebox hooked up to the Hegel HD11 that I won.
As far as budget goes, at this point I'm thinking under 1500... new or used doesn't matter much in my opinion. So far i've been looking at the Parasound Halo P3, but it's almost 10 years old now. The Cary slp-03 looks nice but might be a bit out of the price range... Any other suggestions on where to start the journey? I know a lot of you like the adcom with the blue boards or whatever it is... but all in all, I want something that won't disappoint or kill my entire budget.
Thanks for the suggestions in advance.

If you wanted to get a good unit that mates well with the 5802 the Adcom GFP 750 would be in budget and work great with the amp.
Unless you want to go tube. Then there are several choices out there. -
Wait are you looking for speakers or a pre?
If speakers I personally suggest getting your ears on some Maggies. A set of 1.7's or even MMG's plus a sub is just about heaven!"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." There are lot's of tube pres out there that are well within your budget; Cary, Rogue, AR, Sonic Frontiers-Anthem, Conrad Johnson, BAT, Music Fidelity, Wright, etc. You can easily pick up a great quality tube pre for around $1000 or less and still have a lot of many left over for tube rolling. You have a lot of options at you're price point. The best advice I can give is to get on sites like Audiogon and when you find a pre that seems to have the features you need, research the crap out of it. Of course if you can actually get your ears on said equipment, that's even better.

Enders, its for a pre not speakers. I've heard the 1.7s and loved them but the room they will be going into isn't nearly big enough for those to open up. I also want to avoid having to add a sub to the mix.

Yeah, I realized that just now when I re-read the thread title . I will blame it on just waking up and no caffeinee in my system"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I have always wanted one of these after hearing it, its just over your budget by $1150 but you could hustle the seller

Rogue Audio Metis was my first Pre. Loved it. And its even better now since they fixed certain issues. I recently upgrade to a Perseus. I've heard the Hera and Athena and am floored with both. The 99 Preamp might suit some, but I prefer the Perseus Magnum. In short, it's worth checking out Rogue Audio. Excellent prices, well made and made in USA.
