ok. so i am getting a house built and i just went and measured where all my speakers are going to go. come to find out there is a double 2x4 stub right in the middle of where the center speaker should be mounted in the wall. my wife does not like speakers that sit on top of the entertainment center.

so my question is the center speaker a specific speaker? like is it wired a certain way?

what should i do??

You're center should be from the same series as your front left and right so you have a matching front sound stage. Not as important in the surrounds
    Home Theater
    Onkyo PR-SC5508 Sharp LC-70LE847U
    Emotiva XPA-5 Emotiva XPA-2 Emotiva UPA-2
    Front RTi-A9 Wide RTi-A7 Center CSi-A6 Surround FXi-A6 Rear RTi-A3 Sub 2x PSW505
Sony BDP-S790 Dishnetwork Hopper/Joey Logitech Harmony One Apple TV
    Two Channel
Oppo 105D BAT VK-500 w/BatPack SDA SRS 2.3 Dreadnought Squeezebox Touch Apple TV

i did plan on getting the same series. however the in wall center will not be centered in the wall above the tv. which will drive me crazy. so i can not do that plus it would not look good. what to do? what to do?

Why not frame in a submount box for your center? If you don't have a center speaker in it the wife can put some pictures or something. If you are building whats the biggies about custom in wall sound?
    Too much **** to list....

i am sorry but what is a submount box? about mounting the center in the wall, well i cant. where the tv is going to be mounted is a load beam in the middle. so the speaker would not be centered with the tv.

A recess in the wall. Seems to me if the TV is going in the center of the wall it would be possible to to put two load studs in and cut the wall in thirds instead of one in the middle. There is always the ability to build speaker boxes in the wall and put on driver on either side of the load stud.

Consider mounting a shelf on the wall, and placing the center on the shelf.
    Polk Fronts: RTi A7's
    Polk Center: CSi A6
    Polk Surrounds: FXi A6's
    Polk Rear Surround: RTi4
    Sub: HSU VTF-3 (MK1)
    AVR: Yamaha RX-A2010
    B&K Reference 200.7
    TV: Sharp LC-70LE847U
    Oppo BDP-103
