kind of a sad day at my favorite vintage audio emporium today :-(

Today was the annual town-wide fleamarket in our charming (borderline "quaint") little New England town. Nice fall day - no electronics nor cameras to speak of, although there were lots of decent records at not-too-outrageous prices.
It was also Saturday - the best day of the week in a New England town - Dump day! But... kind of a sad day today...
On the scrap metal pile - a hefty and well crafted, but ultimately cheesy implementation of a "Leslie" speaker, branded Wurlitzer. Two 4" cone speakers on a centrifuge. Also with it, a soiled state, single channel amp (presumably its driver) and what appeared to be the oscillator boards (probably 4 x 4 foot assembly) for the erstwhile Wurlitzer. All soiled state - pretty useless, unfortunately.
Picked up a book on Passive Solar Energy and found, as a bookmark, the instruction booklet for a pair of STAX electrostatic earspeakers. I hope, hope, HOPE the headphones hadn't been there before I was :-(
Finally, two pairs of speakers. Decent pair of Ohm Model Es; woofers needed, of course, refoaming. These I could easily resist.
The sad pair was a pair of Sony APM-615 three ways. MR and LF drivers were APM (square) drivers - the tweeter was a conventional cone masquerading as a square driver. The boxes, sadly, had suffered significant moisture damage. And the speakers were quite large.
All in all, I was able to walk away... but, still, I had a sad :-(

The challenge : get in and out with out buying anything."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
Which model JBLs? ;-)

What soiled the electronics? If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

JBL L100's. They had just about every other model already there but the 100's.
If you were around in the 70's, they've got what you want.
As far as electronics go, electrons flow, holes don't!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
I was an adult in the (late) 1970s :-(
And tubes, actually, aren't cool at all, they're actually quite hot. ;-)
