I got my sony 790 bluray player yesterday and took it out the box this morn. I was going through all the settings and read that it plays SACD. I sold my sacd player a while ago as it never sounded great and could only be hooked up via the analogue. Well I always thought you needed hdmi 1.3 only to play sacd's though a preamp but thankfully I am wrong:cheesygrin: I popped in an sacd just a little while ago and it never played so I set it to downmix the sacd into 2 ch via hdmi and holy crap does it sound good. The first thing I noticed was the clarity of the drums on top of all the other instruments, its the clearest I have heard. The singing is so clear and the amp, speakers and cables seem like they have been given the proper opportunity to do their job..... I LOVE IT !!!
I have never gotten into sacd but I just changed my mind after what I have been hearing. I think I need to get into this format as I dont have an expensive stand alone dac at the moment.

Let's just keep this to ourselves lest we drive up the prices of the remaining supply of sacd software.
