I thought about doing these types of things. What is the release form like? Some of the obstacles like the barbwire, seem particularly prone to semi significant injuries. It just seems like an enormous lawsuit.

Been running long distance since mid-May. Had a hip injury 1/4 of the way through, so had to take a 3.5 week break. Then, last Thursday (not yesterday) I severely strained a tendon in my foot. It has been getting progressively better. I've been staying off of it as much as I could and icing it down. After Sunday, it's been getting progressively better to where I'm about 95% today...as long as I don't re-injure it tomorrow...I'll be golden. Didn't miss much training because of it. I would have run 9 miles last Saturday, then 4.4 miles monday, then 2.2 miles Wednesday. I'm going for about a mile jog tonight which will be the first time I've ran on it since Wednesday of last week.

I was pretty bummed out at first, but it's been feeling great the last couple days.

Other than running, I haven't been doing anything. Luckily, I'm a naturally fit guy. I'm definitely going to be hurting Sunday though...mostly calves and quads. Running in mud is a whole different ball game. You get sucked into it, have to pull yourself back out, then add the extra weight of your shoes from being wet and the weight of mud. A couple of my friends got the toed-shoes which some people really like...but you have to train with those shoes because it uses different muscles. Where I live, I don't have the luxury of a non-concrete path to run on regularly...and they're not designed for roads/sidewalks, so they're not really an option for me.

    Good on you!

I know we talked about the Warrior Dash earlier this year. I hope to do Tough Mudder next year when they come to North Texas.

Sweet! I'm going to try and start making all the tough mudder dates.

"Course Safety Warning: The course is designed to be very difficult and the terrain is at times muddy, slippery, and potentially dangerous. You will be wet after the first mile, and you MUST be able to swim more than fifty yards if you attempt the Walk the Plank obstacle. If you do not feel comfortable completing any obstacle, DO NOT attempt it; simply continue on to the next obstacle. But really, what do you think you signed up for, Warrior Dash?" - ToughMudder.com

All I can say is good luck! And I hope you're a pretty "young" dude, at least under 40 years of age, because, let's face it. Once you hit a certain age, flexibility and the ability to NOT injure yourself when trying to do extraordinary things, physically, just ain't gonna happen! There's a reason you don't see many professionals in their games after this age!

My buddy did one of these in Vermont last year. This year he is doing the GoRuck Challenge (whatever that is). I guess this is like ToughMudder x10. He tells me the race/event takes 12 hours and starts in the middle of the morning, like 1 or 2 am.

good luck, do all the vigorous things in life while you can, believe me, It will seem like minutes and you will be sitting, trying to recall what it felt like to be able to push yourself physically like this.

I wish you well, in this and in life, and remember, after tomorrow, pics or it didn't happen

Cody, I'd be hesitant to wear a $300 camera in that stuff, especially with mud and all the falls. Good luck on that race! The ice part seems hard, everything else looks like endurance.

I hope to do warrior dash next year and tough mudder year after to prove to some people that my broken arm has healed properly. LOL

They'll be in waterproof cases. They hold up well in motorcycle crashes...I'd imagine they'd be fine in the TM.

Yeah, I have seen them surviving motorcycle crash. Still, the chest-strapped camera probably will not help with crawling under electrified wires through the mood.

Plan on taking it next time. Either head band strap or I saw one guy with it on a skateboard helmet.

I made it! Walked maybe half a mile total...and part of that was carrying a log (one of the obstacles). We finished in a little over 3 hours I believe. And 20 minutes of that was waiting in line on a couple of the obstacles.

I think you may have convinced me.

Any idea what the winning time was? I'm deciding whether to try competing, or merely entering to finish.

They don't list times. That's another reason why I like this event so much. "It is not a race, but a challenge". The camaraderie is great. People you don't know are letting you step on their hands to give you a boost up an obstacle...or are waiting at the top to pull you up. People will stay on the top of everest for 20-30 minutes just pulling people to the top. People cheer for each other when others that seem like they are having a hard time or have failed before make it up. It's a cool experience. For your first time, I'd see about just completing the course and having 'the full experience'.

I couldn't do a marathon. I'd get bored. This stuff IS fun. There's a lot of these around...most of them are 5 or 10k's though, not 20k like the tough mudder. But these are also considerably more expensive. $85 for the race, then insurance (you have to buy) and taxes puts it around $115...and it gets more expensive the longer you wait. I think it's worth it...and it goes to a good cause.
