Nice clean looking setup! What size is the TV? Also, we need a pic of the components!

Looks superb.
I'd also be interested in the type/size of TV you have and your rationale for choosing it.
It also looks like it's 5.1, and would love to hear your thoughts on 5.1 vs. 7.1.Polk Fronts: RTi A7's

The TV is actually 65 inches....which is basically as big as you can go on a Plasma without paying an astronomical amount of money.
It looks smaller in the picture for two reasons: These photos were shot on an ultra-wide angle lens, which has a somewhat distorted perspective that stretches out the edge of the frame. The center channel speaker is massive (it's actually bigger than my mains).
As for the decision to go 5.1....my room is actually wider than it is deep, and I've got a door to the left side of the listening are that would make it difficult to place side surrounds without sticking them in the ceiling. The surrounds are dipoles which do a great job of creating spaciousness in the rears/sides. I was running a 7.1 in my old house, and don't find myself missing it much. Would probably have gone 7.1 if I had a deeper room.My System Showcase!

That looks awesome. I can't wait to get a dedicated room. Congrats on a great HT.

That's what you would call class!!!!

Looks fantastic; I also like the fact you painted the ceiling the same color as the walls. More of a theater feel I would think not as distracting as a white ceiling.
Question on your back surrounds in regards to the spacing. I’ve read several articles on this; some for THX certification state they should be no more than 4’ apart, other state wider or narrower spacing’s than the mains L/R but not the same as they compete with each other (I think that what they meant) and some evenly spaced out. How did you choose the spacing?
The reason I ask is I am currently renovating my basement for the second time and just wanted some thoughts on the back surrounds. I will probably start a thread asking that question today.
Congratulations on completing your project.

To be honest, the spacing of my surrounds had more to do with the fact that I knew my wife wanted to hang posters somewhere along the back wall, and I didn't want the crowd the center of the wall. It was more of an aesthetic decision than a functional one. In hindsight, I would probably have wired them a bit closer, but am not too concerned.
That said, I take THX's specifications with a grain of salt as its unreasonable to perfectly meet their specs in a real life room. Which is why I'm a fan of dipoles, as they tend to be more forgiving with placement, despite being less accurate.
My understanding is that for a 5.1, the ideal area to place surrounds is to the side of the listening area, rather than from behind. Dipoles are supposed to be placed to the side as well. My placement is far from ideal, but works fine for ambient effects for HT use. I'd imagine that for multi-channel music, I'd be pickier about surround placement, but that's not a priority at all for me in this room.My System Showcase!
