LSi Series Home Theater

Greetings,

I am building a new home theater, and I had set my mind on the Lsi-15 (R,L), LSiC, LsiFX, LSi7 as a 7.1 system.

Having read many posts on this and other forums, I realized that the LSi(s) are power hungry in order for them to sound as they are supposed to be.

Said that, do you suggest power L+R+C on a separate AMP like Emotiva XPA-3, and the surrounds on AVR?

OR

Shall I go for Emotiva XPA-5 to power 5 speakers and the 2 remaining on AVR?

In this case which AVR would match the Polks, is Denon 2312 a good choice?

Appreciate your inputs as am in a dilemma.

Thanks.

You can maybe get away with LSI 7's running off a receiver, thats it, everything else will need an amp. It's not a matter of a receiver matching a speaker brand, but what sound you like. Everyone hears differently. Just make sure the receiver you choose has preouts to add an amp for all channels and the bells and whistles you like.

if I were you. I'd get XPA-5, then let the AVR does lsi7s, since they're really 6ohms. Great setup btw.

Because someone else will, I'll also recommend that you expand your amplifier horizon by adding used amplifiers to your possible options.

Not that there is anything wrong with Emotiva per se....
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

I agree with the 5 channel amp. I once had a 5.1 setup with POLK LSI9s as the fronts and an LSIC center all powered off an Emotiva XPA-3 with two smaller satellites powered by the reciever. I thought the Emotiva paired very well with the Polk LSI9s for HT. Sounded great and the amp never even got warm. I bought my XPS-3 new for $529 and sold it for $400 after about 2 1/2 of use. Pretty decent resale.

My old system was a pair of LSi15's and LSiC powered by a XPA-3 and a pair of LSiFX powered by my Pioneer SC-05. I was very happy with the end result for HT and it was darn good for 2 channel for just having a Emotiva amp. I wish I still had that set up.

There is also a decent HK amp on the forum for sale as well. It is a Harmon Kardon PA 5800 from tophatjohnny.

He can't check out the FM...not enough posts. Maybe Inspector or tophatjohnny could contact him.

I've run an XPA-5 with good results, but recently picked up a NAD that I like a little better. I'm running LSi15, C, and 7.

For around 5 years I ran 4 LSi 15s, and an LSi C off a Sony 5000ES, a Denon 3805, and a Sony DA7100ES without any issues, and it sounded great. This is in an 11x12 room. Currently, I am using the 7100ES as a pre, and have a Sunfire TGA5400 amp. It sounds even better, but I have no regrets about the years I just used an AVR.

Yup, thats why I listed their names in my response so he could PM them if he was interested.

Personally I love my Carver AV-705x for my LSi 15, LSiC and LSi F/x setup. With that said I am getting a Carver M1.0t refurbed just for the LSi 15's cause I want to make em smoke .... actually just so that I can go 7.1 if wanted in the future or run a set of DIY subs off my Carver 705x's unused channels....

There was a change in plans, as I was about to buy emotiva XPA-5, I got a deal for a brand new NAD C275BEE for $650 which I thought was a steal, so I bought it. The question remains how to power the rest of the speakers, LSi-c, FX, and 7s.

Would the Denon 3312 power them up, or shall I consider investing in a Yamaya AVR that can drive the 4-ohms.

PS: I dont live in the US, and I was thinking of the maintenance of the Emotiva in case something happened. It will cost a lot to ship back and forth.

Let the receiver handle the 7's, the others may be too much of a load when combined for that receiver. So in other words, look for another amp for the center and fx's. Where do you live outside the states btw ?

If space is an issue, maybe a 5 channel amp would have been a better option to look at. Check out Audiogon.com, you can see what some go for, new or used.
