Net surfing I came to know Yamaha is celebrating their 125 years of existence!!! Very few businesses survive and thrive for 125 years, but beginning October 1, 2012, Yamaha will mark this major milestone with a yearlong celebration filled with events.
Here is their special site: Yamaha Audio: 125th Anniversary
On their 125th anniversary Yamaha have selected just 155 products from their hundreds and thousands which they consider worthy to be the crowning jewels of technological feat & achievement.
Link: Yamaha Audio: 125 Year's of Product History
These 155 products can by viewed as years of release or by product category like pianos, keyboards, guitars & basses, drums, strings, winds, percussion, audio & visual, music reproduction, professional audio, network devices, sports equipment and even Lsi and computers!!!
It is just that sometimes I forget how big Yamaha is. And then we have Yamaha Motor Company!!! Anyway since we are interested in audio & visual here, looking at this list I am just dumbfounded by the fact that they selected just TWELVE?.yes just 12 products from their hundred years plus audio/ video history as being worthy enough to be considered a jewel product.
Here are they:
1) 1915: Yamaha Hand-wound Gramophone
2) 1973: Yamaha CA-1000 Stereo Integrated Amplifier
3) 1974: Yamaha B-1 Stereo Power Amplifier
4) 1974: Yamaha NS-1000M Loudspeaker
5) 1976: Yamaha C-2 Stereo Pre-Amplifier
6) 1977: Yamaha NS-10M Loudspeaker
7) 1982: Yamaha CD-1 Compact Disc Player
8) 1986: Yamaha DSP-1 Digital Sound Field Processor
9) 2003: Yamaha DSP-Z9/ RX-Z9 AV Receiver
10)2004: Digital Sound Projector YSP-1
11)2010: Digital Sound Projector YSP-2200
12)2011: Integrated Audio System ISX-800
I am astonished as well as amazed by the fact that there is just no mentioning of their current HiFi products lineup which includes highly acclaimed A-S2000/ A-S1000 stereo integrateds and Soavo series speakers. Even their revered and epic Centennial Series are missing from this list not to mention the rare GF-1. In the end it is upto Yamaha to nominate and choose their jewels.
1915: Yamaha Hand-wound Gramophone
1973: Yamaha CA-1000 Stereo Integrated Amplifier
From a time when early solid-state amplifiers in Class B ruled - Yamaha got back to basics with Class A.
1974: Yamaha B-1 Stereo Power Amplifier
Yamaha's other statement along with the NS-1000M. Awe-inspiring, unbelievable sound, magnificent design - a true landmark.
1974: Yamaha NS-1000M Loudspeaker
The end of the weak link - or so Yamaha stated in 1974. The 1000x version was used by Luxman as "reference" speaker as late as 1997.
1976: Yamaha C-2 Stereo Pre-Amplifier
Bestselling slimline preamplifier, companion of the non-slimline B-2 V-FET... bestseller. Deceptively small.
1977: Yamaha NS-10M Loudspeaker
200,000 pairs sold - I'm sure many manufacturers would want to be able to say that.
1982: Yamaha CD-1 Compact Disc Player
A MONSTER, in every sense of the word. Short-lived, too -
1986: Yamaha DSP-1 Digital Sound Field Processor
A landmark product.
Introduced in 1986, the DSP-1 was a revolutionary processor of early home theater surround sound equipment and the first in the world to be sold for processing digital signals, produced by the Yamaha Corporation. DSP-1 was also the first consumer product ever to support Dolby Surround where a three channel sound (Left, Right and Rear) were created from a matrix-encoded analog stereo input. It left Yamaha?s competitors scratching there heads unable to understand this complex technology & how Yamaha was able to release a consumer model.
2003: Yamaha DSP-Z9/ RX-Z9 AV Receiver
The best Yamaha AV receiver ever... awe-inspiring design, terrific build quality, astounding performance and expensive. One-off product.
The DSP-Z9/ RX-Z9 was Yamaha's last US $4,500 legacy Uber AV amplifier/ receiver that was primarily devoted to sound quality. With this model Yamaha made a quantum leap in terms of sound quality with respect to its previous model DSP-AZ1/ RX-Z1. It was the first receiver in the world to support video up-conversion (720p/ 1080i) and provide a GUI display for easy operation.
The later HD ready DSP-Z11/ RX-Z11 was more about home theater than stereo/ multi-channel audio performance. The DSP-Z9 flagship model incorporated a "pure direct" circuit designed for ultimate audio sound quality and "HD Cinema DSP," which boasted an impressive live feeling with 9.2 channels.
2004: Digital Sound Projector YSP-1
2010: Digital Sound Projector YSP-2200
2011: Integrated Audio System ISX-800
