Just got the new OPPO BDP-103 Monday... have not connected or been able to do any personal reviews yet. Anyone else got one out of the box and fired it up?

I am anxious to see how well the network media playback fairs in my setup. I have all my CD's brought down to WAV files and quite a bit of HD FLAC content I want to pass through it. That of course and the addition of the DVD-A and SACD playback capabilities. Any thoughts?

As far as Blu-Ray playback (or DVD video as well) with the impressive video processing in the unit, thoughts on connecting the HDMI directly to my screen or pass it through my Integra DHC 40.2 for processing?

Thanks in advance.

Aside from SACD, DVD-A, etc, what are the advantages to these OPPO players in terms of playing BD's?

I'm open to buying one, but am not sure if there is a material benefit to spending $400 extra if I'm exclusively using this for BD playback.

I doubt a $99 Bluray player is anywhere near the $499 Oppo in regard to video and build quaility. Maybe it is, but at this time I doubt it. At the very least a $99 player will be made of the cheapest plastic, and other parts, the manufacturer can find.

Build quality aside, is there anything that realistically gives the Oppo a leg-up in terms of PQ when playing a blu-ray file, given that we're dealing with a purely digital signal, and there should be no image processing done to a blu-ray movie? (correct if I'm wrong about the image processing). Not too concerned with upconversion.

The Sony S790 gave the 83/93 a heck of a run for the money, but it is a 4k blu ray player so we shall see how these new players measure up. Oppo does have the top notch build quality which is what I really liked about my former 83. I'm sure there wil be tons of comparisons soon enough. I'm just hoping Oppo finally fixed the DLNA, and 1080p support for streaming apps.

Enjoy the new Oppo OP, definitely looking forward to your thoughts.

Three major changes from the older BDP-93:
    1. Qdeo by Marvell:
      - The BDP-103 incorporates Marvell's Kyoto-G2H video processor with the latest generation Qdeo™ technology.
      - The BDP-93 incorporates Marvell's Kyoto-G2 video processor with the second generation Qdeo™ technology.
This only affects DVD playback, not Bluray.
    2. MHL Input:
      - Simplify connecting smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices to the home theater by using the MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) input port of the BDP-103. Display high resolution pictures, 1080p video and listen to pure digital music all while simultaneously charging the connected mobile device. The front HDMI input port of the BDP-103 doubles as the MHL input.
      - No MHL Input for the BDP-93.
    3. 4K Up-scaling:
      - Enhance the home theater experience with four times the resolution of Full HD 1080p by up-scaling all video sources to 4K (3840 x 2160) output resolution.
      - No 4K Up-scaling for the BDP-93
All in all, not worth of an upgrade, especially since 4K resolution is useless at this moment.
