This is the first I've heard that they're planning to offer a supercharged model! Sweet!

No all wheel drive! The suby engine is in the wrong place for that. Rear wheel only. Nice looking car, saw a BRZ on the street the other day.

subaru wanted to introduce a light weight sports car, so that is what the BRZ is. Id still take my GDB 04 STi over it though haha.

200hp isn't enough for a sports car. If they offer a 300hp Sti version or a TRD FRS version that would definitely get my attention.

200hp is plenty, 100-130hp miatas eat up the track.

Remember! More power means you have to be able to stop it too, so bigger brakes. Bigger/wider tires. Eventually the cars get so large and heavy they no longer become nimble. The fastest cars on tracks arent usually the high HP ones unless you're talking about drag racing. They're the small roadsters like the S2000 and miatas.

Or generation 1 RX-7s. Slow in a straight line, but very "flingable." A purist's sports car.

I like the FR-S/BRZ, but I'm thinking it's not going to be on quite the same level as a Miata or S2000. Much heavier than a Miata, and while I'm sure the boxer engine is great, the S2000's was incredible. Will have to drive it and see how enthusiastic that boxer engine is. Definitely won't rev as high as an S2000's.

I know it's a common comment, but an AWD version of the BRZ would be much better, and an STI version would be best in class.

AWD misses the entire point of this car.

Thats what I'm thinking too. Adding more power, AWD, even stickier tires turns this car into less than it is. Always open to a nice exhaust note though.

Honestly the exhaust note dies once you start doing things like equal length headers. AWD is nice but i don't feel as if it's as fun. My sti puts me back in my seat and pulls like no other but when it comes to "pure" driving prefer driving my 964. Rear engine rear wheel drive 2 seats. Granted its still a heavy car at 3000lbs but its so much more "fun". The BRZ is heavier than the rx7 and the engine isnt as good as the s2000 in my opinion. Rotary is fun, I had one but once it gets old it gets pretty high maint.

If you're looking for a weekend car I dont see any problem with a BRZ/Miata/S2000/RX7 but i would no way use it for a commuter.
If you're looking for a fun car you can use as a commuter i'd look into the Evos/sti/wrx/r32. They're 4 door have LOTS of power and have plenty of space for passengers/cargo. Also AWD is nice for all weather.

It would be just a toy but I would still drive to work when nice, not that I'm buying one right now anyway. I've got a camaro that will throw me back in the seat so not really looking for that.
