Im pretty new at this and don't know much about speaker wires. I have a Sony DH710 receiver with polk audio Rm 85 speakers and monster Xp Speaker wire but its all chopped up and not measured for my new living space ,now should i get 16 Gauge or 14 ? Im moving to a basement and i prob wont need more than 50ft but i also want to get good cable because in the future i plan on buy a better receiver. Im currently looking at some Kord Ultra Flex 16 Gauge Speaker Wire
thank you

14 guage would work fine and would be what gauge I recommend."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)

i did some research and found the bigger the Gauge the better it sounds so would 12 gauge be even better? thanks for the reply

I wont even begin to start as that statement is not what I would call right.
You probably wont be able to hear the difference between a 14 and 12 gauge speaker wire from a regular store like best buy, etc. 14 gauge should be more than adequate for the runs you need.
I ran 14 gauge speaker wire for about 20 feet to both my LSi F/X surrounds and wouldnt change that to 12 unless it was also due to getting a higher end speaker wire (which is a totally different topic).
14 gauge wire works GREAT for what you need, is quite flexible and more than enough. 12 gauge is harder to bend and I dont know if the RM's use a binding post or not, but if they use the clips, I am very doubtful 12 gauge will fit into it."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." are those good quality?

I used their 14 gauge wire on my 500+ dollar surrounds, and so have thousands of other folks, so yes they are good."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."
