There is a 1250 for sale, asking 125, says it works intermittently, was wondering if there is a deal killer known problem with these.
Say a common problem with a part that is impossible to obtain, and is known to go out.
Or is it like most of this age and era, the oxidation, possible cap leakage, circuitry cracks etc.
Would love to own one, and i have a friend who loves to piddle with this kind of thing, but dont want to buy it blindly.
Thanks, as always for any info,
Scott

I hear ya freak.
What has me still interested is this is the owner of nw speakers here in atlanta, he has had my infinitys for a few weeks for recapping, he has been in business forever, im thinkin since we are doin business, he might even do something special for me on price.
He seems like a decent guy the time I have dealt with him.
I just called, his wife answers the phone on saturdays, he is playing a gig tonight, (he is a working musician, which is why he got into the speaker repair business)
Will talk to him monday, if it seems worth checking out, I will soon be going by to pick up my infinitys anyway, This receiver alone is the one that tempts me, having owned a 1050 in my army days.
We will see monday i guess.humpty dumpty was pushed -
Personally, if that powers on at all you can probably get your money back from any of the vintage guys at AK! You'll never see a 1250 in any condition sell for that on ebay unless a bomb has hit it! As far as parts, I believe you're OK. There isn't much that is unobtanium in there as I understand it. Perhaps mhardy can chime in on this. Hint! Hint!
As you know this unit is only second to the SX 1980 in the behemoth Pioneer silver face series. The 1250 being TOTL for a while. I know someone who has a working one he'll never part with! If you can take a look inside. See what things look like, if they're clean, if anything is leaking. But recapping a Pioneer is not impossible. I had a much lower and older (Pioneer) model's pre-amp section redone by a local tech. No problem finding parts or restoring it.
I think you're probably OK. But that does not mean that you might not have to "sink" more money into restoring it than you might get back selling it. And that's a consideration as well. Maybe the only "real" one. If you have to use a tech, and there is a lot of work. It's NOT going to be cheap!

Perfectly OK and of course cosmetically impressive. Sonically, meh... just not a fan.

Scotty- he's already making money on the speakers so I'd offer him $75 and let it go otherwise. If it powers on and you have the other guy that tinkers on things, then you will probably be able to get it going and enjoy it. Worse case you can always parts out the knobs, switches, faceplate ect and make money on it.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

I know that some of the old Pioneers (and some of the other Japanese hardware of roughly the same era) have issues at this late date with their wire wrapped (rather than soldered) connections... I guess the point is that there are numerous relatively trivial potential root causes for the reported issue(s) with the 1250 in question.

Get the damn thing already. You could double your money just selling parts off of it. The 1250 doesn't really have unobtainium parts unless maybe the power transformer was fried from a lighting strike. My guess is the seller just has his head in the sand on the value of that receiver. Fixed up, its worth $800-$1k easy. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I would be very wary of an SX 1250 for that price. I sold mine locally 2 years ago for three times that price. I could have gotten more if I had been willing to ship it, however, I just did not want to go through the trouble.
